BTW, I do wish someone up high would tell Fallon to stop using his elbows like that.

In fairness, he's probably had a lifetime of his Dad yelling 'elbows! use your elbows!' at him.

  • Speaker: KICK IT! Vuvuzelas and Jambulanis,

@Russell that little plastic goalkeeper rolling about on the ground is seriously the most heartbreaking thing I've ever seen.

Was available for use apparently, it was only the Germans with their quiet efficiency and diabolical cleverness who had the sense to bring it in.

Presumably the German league uses an Adidas ball anyway? The Premiership uses a Nike one, so I wouldn't have expected much co-operation there.

And absolutely, there's always compaints about the ball early on in the world cup - there were loads in 2002. Usually they settle down after a few games, these guys are professional footballers after all.

For me, the All Whites should try several low key speculative shots from 25 yards out and hope the goal keeper fucks up. Its worked before (!), and I noticed those pragmatic Italians trying it a couple of times this morning.

  • Speaker: KICK IT! Football's comin' home,

ITV in the UK ballsed up their England v USA coverage by cutting away to a commercial / black screen JUST as the goal was scored - check it out, they couldn't have done it any more perfectly.

  • Field Theory: The other game,

Between the World Cup and an Alp d'Huez ascent, the All Blacks' first test kind of lost out in my TV viewing scheduling. Having watched highlights and read about the match it seems we did OK in an odd contest.

I'm interested in how people thought our midfield defence shapes up - it seems the Stanely / Smith pairing isn't as physically formidable as having Nonu in there?

And is it just me, or will Barnes' All Blacks reffing performance always be judged with 2007 in mind? When I head he sent an Irish player off after 15 minutes, first thing I thought was 'it'll take more than that before we're back on speaking terms, fella'.

Realising this is my first World Cup with MySky. Storage issues aside (the Criterium Dauphine is playing havoc), this is going to be invaluable in coming weeks as we cope with one of the most diabolical time differences going.

Everyone's been pretty cagey so far, hey? England v USA has been the most entertaining so far, with South Africa v Mexico not far behind. I didn't watch Korea v Greece in fairness.

If anyone is looking for a football related DVD to take a break from watching football, I can thoroughly recommend Ken Loach's Looking For Eric - we watched it last night, it is very funny, with bonus breathtaking Cantona footage. He's not a bad actor either.

    *BTW Dan, Battiston v Shumacher's elbow was 1982, not 1986 #helpful #annoying

  • Field Theory: Settle a bet,

Wayne's World is ALL quotes - I remember that magical time in the early 90s when eveyone was saying 'Not!' 'Schwing!' 'A sphicnter says what?' 'Sure, but monkeys might fly out of my butt!' etc etc.

They got old quickly, but I loved some of the others, and still used 'its sucking my will to live!' and 'No stairway?' for years afterwards.

Can I get any of you cunts a drink?

    YES!

More importantly, does Mos Eisley allow laptops? Did Han shoot Greedo 'cos he suspected him of surreptitious fucking about on a netbook under the table?
