  • Random Play: Rock Follies,

I am Brian, hear me roar ...

    Genius.

I'd have a crack at a second verse but I, um, don't know the second verse ...

OK, 'fess up - which one of you is Sonic?

Alright, it's me. I can tell you, all that trolling on Kiiwblog and keeping up Hitchens Watch keeps me bloody busy.

But in retrospect, it was a bit OTT when I interviewed myself for my Listener column ...

But then even our friend from New Orleans did start of trying to actually argue something and was reasonably civil.

I think he's been civil all along, and I generally disagree with him but appreciate his willingness to engage. It's actually been more the case that I've had to warn other people for being abusive towards him.

Could be the mellow colours on the website.

    That'll be it.

    Pastels: so gay.

Am I being naive? Or are there people out there like this?

Loads of them. Redbaiter's relatively comedic. Try Murray, Whale Oil or Coyote for more genuinely chilling attitudes.

  • Summer Holiday,

3 Sitting eating takeaways at Western Springs one evening, watching a group of Indians/Pakistanis/Sri Lankans? in a not-so-casual game of tennis ball cricket.

Yep, I've seen some serious games like that. I'm looking forward to those immigrant communities strengthening our player base. In theory we should see the same thing in football in a few years ...

  • Hard News: Draped in their flag,

Just to show the dog whistling on this issue (and the reactionary responses) aren't limited to Australians, here's a link to DPF's post and thread on the subject:
    http://www.kiwiblog.co.nz/2007/01/idiotic_aussie_flag_ban.html

(RB feel free to delete if it's not ok to post this!)

Of course it is. In fact, I went and gave him a serve about it. You expect psycho bigots like Murray to go off, but DPF should know better.

Might I also say that I'm not entirely comfortable with sweeping statements about Australians in this thread. It's a pair of fine Australians who bring us our BDO in the first place, and many, many more who just love music and would like their music festival back. Not everybody's a boofhead.

hey, reminds me... you guys seen this?

I presume Ridgey got a nice wedge for his part in that. Or did it all go towards her boob job?

It doesn't really rhyme, but it's so damn dramatic that I'm going with it.

Knoxy and the Boxtops, 'Swimming Pool'

Encouraged by the success of 'Not Given Lightly' as an advertising jingle, Chris Knox decided to re-record the Toy Love classic 'Swimming Pool' for a TV commercial, with a session band called the Boxtops (actually The Feelers). But in a typically rebellious and self-destructive gesture, Knox refused to change any of the words. The prospect of having "Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Marc Bolan, Jimi Hendrix" lying at the bottom of their suburban pools did not prove a strong selling point for consumers and the campaign was a colossal failure. It is thought this incident provoked Knox's lurch into vegetarianism.

We were actually remarking on the day that there weren't nearly as many obvious emos as we thought there'd be. There seemed to be more t-shirts with rude slogans about emos than there were actual emos.

So they're rare. And what do you do, Damian? You find one and make the poor thing cry ...
