  • Hard News: Just a little bit good, surely?,

    1.7:5.1 (or 1:3) vs 3.4:8.1 (or 1:2.7) surely = increasingly LIKELY.
I can't see any problem with any of these figures- albeit given the raw data, I'm sure one could spin things lots of other ways.

  • Radiation: On the PVR,

Can you get dvd HD recorders that accept g-code? Could be the way to go.... I like the possibility of moving stuff I might want to keep- (or rip to Xvid or something) off a HD in accessable format (which I'm assuming the sky pvr and Tivos generally don't have). I'm not sure what else a Tivo is/does- but HD dvd recorders are just starting to edge into the reasonable price brackets.

  • Flying Nun Moments,

Ooops- it's "embedded" itself.... still, probably all for the best. Links are also automatically converted I guess.

  • Flying Nun Moments,

    Hiya Stu!
Sorry it's taken time to reply- had a great holiday tho.... but can't seem to upload vids to youtube from home- our very fickle "broadband" is too slow (128 upload and always seems to fizzle out before it's done). Anyway, the two reels mentioned are at (hope that's right...). Not great quality, and perhaps not that interesting to anyone else... also, I was wrong about Ronnie being the model- you will know who it is!- I was confused as I watched it go through, by the fact that there's a shot of Ronnie at the end just before a number of shots of trains....
Anyway, if you want that reel- reply and it is yours. Also possibly others: one static shot in black and white, I think from K St- has the appearance of being a "mistake"!- and another reel, largely underexposed, which looks like a drama segment shot (I think) in a flat in New Regent St and coming out onto the street. There's also a reel of the Methven rodeo- not sure who would've shot that! No idea how they ended up in my box of old films.
Hope life is treating you well- cheers- Rob.

  • Hard News: A little patch of turf,

This- from the Telegraph- indicates maybe the myspace photos were already just a bit... wierd!

    >>A suspect arrested in connection with the murder of five women in Suffolk has posted bizarre photographs of himself on an internet blog site, where he calls himself "The Bishop".

Mr Stephens, 37, was arrested at home in Trimley, near Felixstowe this morning. His profile, posted on the popular Myspace networking site, shows him posing with a can of custard powder and riding a toy car.

On the web site, he is also pictured wearing a Union flag tie, standing in front of a wall covered with glow-in-the-dark stars, and with eyes painted on his closed eyelids.

On the site, which Mr Stephens has programmed to play Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D Major, he lists his interests as "keeping fit, most types of day/night out" [sic].

He says he especially likes music from the 1980s and in the films category he has written, "sorry I havn’t starred in any" [sic].

The television, he says, is "a box in the corner of the room which I don’t watch very often" and his hero is listed as the cartoon dog and martial arts expert Hong Kong Phooey.

Mr Stephens has also typed, "Well here I am trying to make the laptop work & I’ve ended up here" and says he would like to be meet 'Goddoh’, perhaps a misspelled reference to Samuel Beckett’s absurdist play Waiting for Godot.

He says he is looking for "dating, serious relationships, friends" and describes himself as straight, 180cm tall and athletic.

He describes his occupation as 'Team Leader’ and adds, "love kids, but not for me". <<<

  • Speaker: Copywrong II,

Clarke- spot on. The details are a lot trickier.... but the principles should be this clearly articulated first. Just my h'penny farthing's worth.

  • Yellow Peril: the identity game,

Songs we used to sing at primary school: late 60s, semi-rural NZ, music teacher; Mrs MacFarlane, a mildly sardonic 67-year-old Scotswoman. What did we sing in std 2 school music? Wall-to-wall Beatles.
(What did the kids sing? Noone seemed to know the words beyond "Pokarekare ana": it was all "Teacher hit me with a ruler...etc" Ah, them was the daze.)

  • Flying Nun Moments,

Strange coincidence? For years I've been meaning to get various reels of 16mm film onto tape- and in particular, an abortive attempt at 2 music clips which the band have never seen.... Hoping to get the footage ready over Xmas, I finally cadged a reasonable telecine machine and this afternoon started to record some of the old reels.
No labelling to speak of- and so far, two or three of the films I most wanted are nowhere to be found. BUT- some distinct oddities. There's a Stuart Page reel that looks like a series of camera exercises: pan, tilt, etc- amusingly done, but most entertaing is the "model"- a youthful Ronnie van Hoot.
The other odd gem- with no indication who shot it or what it was for: a reel of Bob Scott and Hamish Kilgour, trekking past railside factories, lighting a fire and having a boil-up. There's a magnetic sound-strip on the film, but I'm not set up for audio- maybe that'll be clue.
Anyway- it did seem to rate as a "flying nun moment"?!

  • Flying Nun Moments,

    Te Ata:
Paul Keane- bassplayer for Toy Love and The Bats- did a grand job organising orientation at Canterbury for many many years. In fact the orientation circuit has kept a few FNers in guitar strings for decades....
"The Carlton"- another lost venue. The Palladium was truely wierd!
And if it's the same one: that party at Little River was terrific! (At the old schoolhouse up the Puaha (spelling?) valley....) Ross Humphries (ex pin-group, billionaires, etc) laid down an amazing umu. And the jamming went on and on and on...
