Aoraki is the mountain. Waitaki is the river. Takitimu is the ancestral canoe/ship/vessel of origin. Kai Tahu are the people.

Thanks to Islander for that post. Was really informative to here a definition like that if you don't know a person yet.

Herr Abenslass or something this time round

Sad that I missed out on that. Was probably quite a nice argument again...:)

It's like an uninvited guest at a party, who throws up in the kitchen, hits on your wife (partner/ girlfriend/ teenage daughter/ son), breaks your favourite vase, then just when you think they've been ejected, you wake up to find them sleeping in the flower bed out front.

Shouldn't be that bad. It is still a virtual discussion on a web blog.

My own contribution on this thread was probably a bit nastier than I intended - sorry 'bout that.

no worries, let's call it spiritedness...;)

For me it is really interesting how you point out intensely that you are proud and joyful about your origin. Is that the exception?

Regarding the 'coffee-house talk' I miss the idea that this talk is limited to topics, which are based on everyday life, so that they don't lead to a controversy, when any opinion is expressed.
Apart from that I really like the definition.

By the way, did you want to express something in the first sentence. It is quiete hard to understand a language that you never were confronted with.

  • Speaker: There's a word for that ...,

I'm not surprised Australian politics steers away from sustainability. Most of their economy is founded on mining.

I would expect that people, who have to deal with environmental issues for economic reasons would be quiete keen on limiting the impact these activities have.

Ah, thank you. I was just getting annoyed by the fact that i was reading this horrible word all day.

Thinking about your country's history you should have some Maori blood then.

Sorry, but as a German, speaking English as a second language I can't really help you with that task. If you come up with a nice idea, we could talk about it.

fuck (just because everybody writes that;). You are right. A discussion about having a discussion is not necessarily a 'coffee-house talk'.

I think that can happen in any place.

Now that everyone told his little story about trolls, I am still amused how a discussion can turn out to be a coffee house talk...:)

The Zappa post is amazing !!!

There was a wonderful concert at bodega last night.
Johnny Chal, Chris Cope Trio and Sacha Vee really rocked the house. What a jazz night !!!

  • Hard News: Not in front of the children,

History can never be reversed. During WWII the swastika has changed its meaning dramatically and as long as there are nazis around that refer to the movement it won't loose this meaning.

the question is whether they can continue to exist. I might agree with you, but I have no idea what you are trying to say.

I was trying to express my opinion that we can sustain a larger community and that this growth is limited by the resources we have.
