  • Random Play: All Apologies,

how many times do I have to keep calling bullshit on that? Sorry, but anyone who thinks Hide has someone dropped off the radar over the last week either needs to open both their eyes or just stop lying.

Very colourful Craig and oh so temperate ... so you really don't think that the Hone H issue has diverted any media attention that would otherwise still be focused on Rodney? really really? how interesting and yet somehow unlikely.

  • Random Play: All Apologies,

It does occur to me that Rodney Hide really ought to buy Hone a big drink and/or shout him another all expenses paid trip back to Paris for the mammoth distraction from Rodney's indiscretions with public funds .

All the media oxygen has been sucked up by the MoFos and Paris whereas Rodney's ripoffs of the taxpayer was far more serious, and potentially more damaging to the government. I somehow doubt John Key is too upset about the sideshow either.

  • Hard News: Bowie for the BDO?,

Songs about Technology... can't find a link to the video but would be a shame to forget Dick (aka Richard) Driver's single from the 1980s 'Typewriter'.

  • Hard News: The Peter Principle,

Chris Finlayson actually - he's the Minister responsible

Gah... yes Finlayson not Coleman, still having nightmares about Coleman's performance on Media 7 re the TVNZ Charter a month or so back.

  • Hard News: The Peter Principle,

I'm sure the Peter Jackson will bring a lot of experience and useful insights to the review but am very unsure about him leading it. As others have said, he has well known issues with the NZFC, to what extent is this a predefined outcome of sorts by Coleman because of this choice. What next, perhaps we can have David Henderson head a review of IRD, Laurie Mains do Graham Henry's performance review, Rodney Hide review Auckland governance....actually...

  • Not Guilty,

Like some of the other I fall into the 'I think he did it' camp but heck, my sympathies for the jury - trying to make sense of 3 months of frequently conflicting 'expert' testimony etc amidst the huge weight of public interest in this case - sheesh. Frankly I was not surprised that they came up with the verdict they did - reasonable doubt in these circumstances always seemed likely to me.

Was has particularly irked me about this case since the announcement of the quashing has been the media campaign (courting of public and political opinion) by the Bain team on the grounds of cost. Are we supporting justice or just cost effectivenesss? Mind you lets not forget Billy Bragg's line 'this isn't a court of justice, this is a court of law...'

  • Hard News: Flu diversions,

Back to the new Survivors for a moment - I finally watched it last night. Even when trying to factor out my personal belief that Julie Graham is the most annoying actor in Britain today, I still found it quite disappointing. The tone and pacing in particular seemed really bad, not to mention the weird invasive background music. They seemed to be in a terrible rush to introduce the core cast at the expense of building real tension or drama and as someone else mentioned - what was with the simultaneous dying? I'd have thought that a virus would knock out the populous at a somewhat more varied pace.

Lets hope it gets better. still, should revive interest in the original.

For its sheer implanted pervasiveness across the NZ media for a particular period of time and purpose, lets hear it for ..... 'Nanny state'
