  • Hard News: It is your right and duty to vote,

    ...those friggin' awful Australian mynahs...

The horrible little bastards are actually from India.

Part of the colonial imperative to seed each new conquest with annoying and destructive fauna (and flora, for that matter)!

  • Hard News: Let's lynch the liberals!,

herr ablassend (or what ever your name is today). Have you learnt anything at all from this thread?

    Anything?

You may think you're trolling – and I'm sure you're snickering proudly. But dude, you're just offensive. Offensive and disrespectful.

    Go. Away.

Brilliant photos Geoff. Love the foyer ones... and the world needs more photos of obscure signs – I'm not being facetious either:)

Oh, and the Buddy Holly poster is actually only about 6 years old. It's a prop from the musical Buddy .

I'd dearly like to find some of the old movie posters from the early days of the Civic. I guess they've all disappeared – I do, however, have a couple of dozen that I rescued from the St James.

In a small plastic zip-lock bag in my camera case :)

... which remained alone in the middle of the stage, completely unused, for the entire tour – camera, not brain.

I just had a sudden rush of brains to the head, (amazing for a sunday evening I know) and realised that there are excerpts from The Mighty Civic documentary here at NZ On Screen.

Thanks everyone. That was hell good fun... And there were still bits we didn't see.

The Civic really is a black hole of time too, as you experienced... although some it could've been, what Tracy calls my 'Grandpa Simpson' moments.

Sam: I'm really sorry we missed you – and by seconds too, it appears. I reckon we may have to do another. Sooner, rather than later!!

Brilliant photos too... I reckon your little tripod was hungover as well, Steve... and Jackie, for all the cursing at the non-functioning flash, yours came out pretty bloody well!

It was really lovely to meet you all – drinks were, as Sofie said, a perfect way to finish the evening.

Gawd I was tired last night!

I forgot to add: Bring cameras... or your choice of recording device.

    Now. The Civic tour...

For those who are coming and that I haven't emailed: We shall meet at Starks at 2:30 and amble up to stage door from there.

I have a DVD copy of Peter Wells' The Mighty Civic to show ya'll too. I feel I must tell you though, that it's 45 min long! So we could be up for a marathon tour.

Bruce: I know the regular tour idea was investigated.I think the main reason it was rejected was cost – well, cost & security. I shall ask the powers that be though, and give you a more detailed answer.

The boxes are useable – I often use the top ones as follow-spot positions – however they have absolutely shocking sight-lines. In fact you're lucky if you see a third of the stage! They exist more for you to be seen. In fact the only time I remember them used was (I think) by Duran Duran who 'watched' Bryan Ferry from the OP box.

  • Public Address Word of the Year 2009,

..incidentally (and nothing at all to do with this topic), is the tour of The Civic still on for Saturday?

It most certainly is, Geoff. I shall post details on the original thread, either later today or tomorrow morning.
