  • Hard News: Heads up for music, in reply to Kyle Matthews,

How good is that? I listened to a couple of 30 second samples and couldn't get into it, but ran out of time to go back and pick some more.

I'm enjoying it... there's only one song on it that I skip with regularity...
It may be a celebration but it's definitely not a party album. An excellent accompaniment to quiet reflective afternoons/evenings :)

  • Hard News: Heads up for music, in reply to Russell Brown,

We snuck in Cat 6 cabling to our renovations

just about the only thing we have decided about our yet-to-be-designed house, is that it will be totally set up for a household full of geeks... which means cabling, wireless points & inbuilt bookshelves :)

I bought a large number of the Harbour Union CDs at the Wundy re-opening shindig. Will happily hand over a copy when you're down our way Russell (I bought them to share round!)

  • Field Theory: Hospital Pass, in reply to Sacha,

the 4.1mill for the AMI turf is coming from the government (well, taxpayers...)

  • Field Theory: Hospital Pass,

Vbase could not guarantee that the stadium could be repaired in time... any fast-tracked repair plan would have involved changes in consent processes which could place insurance at risk. Also the uninsured pitch is damaged (but the govt is paying 4.1mill to fix that) and there may be as yet unidentified damage to the drainage system under the pitch, which would delay the repair programme beyond the scheduled match dates.

It's the best thing IMHO - there is no way the city would cope with the influx of visitors given the state of our infrastructure. Personally I'm disappointed that we've lost the games but really, that happened on Feb 22 not yesterday. Moving the games was the only decision that could be made given the state of repairs needed at the stadium and the wider city environs.

Don't really care where the games are played now as nothing will replace the lost opportunity of watching all the Chch RWC games from the stands where I was to be working. :(

  • Hard News: An excellent evening in Newtown, in reply to Russell Brown,

MW: Hey, I read somewhere that “people who don’t have houses aren’t allowed to pay for drinks”. I know you _do_ have a house, but still, I was following the spirit of the rule.

RB: Actually, yes. Now you mention it, that was an actual rule.

ooops... oh well, I've never been good with rules. If you manage to bring OGB down to Shakeytown anytime soon I'll take replacement drinks at any venue you can find open.

A great night, just what was needed. Unfortunately way too short a break... got back at 11pm Saturday night, then shifted house on Sunday. Still waiting for phone and internet to be hooked up (another week or so yet...anyone would think there'd been a disaster or summit) but surviving on limited mobile-based services in the meantime.

Would love to swap cooking ideas for fish but I never go beyond shark 'n' taties, while me and chillis stay well clear of each other ;)
    as you were...

  • Hard News: Mind Blending,

ohhhh man... it's tough hearing that yet another thing I've been waiting for gets yanked away thanks to the latest round of seismic shite. I don't think I'll be able to make it up to Wgtn no matter how much I really really want to.

    :(

  • Hard News: Again: Is everyone okay?, in reply to Lilith __,

crap... another name I know on 'the list'... my aunt used to work for him, he tested my eyes at age 9. Nice guy, another gap in the lives of many round here.

  • Muse: OPEN THREAD: Voices from Christchurch,

checking in from Shakeytown... Have only just checked into PA so don't have the energy to wade through the discussions and replies on the other thread. I'm doing better than some, although I'm still waiting to hear back from some people very close to me. I'll just have to wait for the official release of names and keep hoping that they're just out of contact and not out of luck.
What was my personal rebuilding blog has taken on a slightly different tone, as it's not just 2000 houses that need rebuilding anymore... it's almost the entire city.
    hugs to all fellow refugees
