  • Hard News: Slumpy Cashflow,

Small children, single income family, rising food/fuel prices, renting with little hope of owning....I am not confident. Mainly I am worried about rental rpices going sky-high.

  • Southerly: Even More Southerly,

I'm interested to know why you felt that you had to lose it

when I first moved to Wellington in the late '80s my accent was the target of a lot of derision. I was tryign to get away from Southland wanted to elave the accent behind. Now I wish i hadn't. If I am home for more than a few dayds I tend to revert back

  • Southerly: Even More Southerly,

I was just reading about Jen's research. I had a very broad Southland R which I worked VERY hard at losing when I moved north. My family makes fun of me now because I don't have a trace of it. Oddly it turns up in my 5 year old on certain words - and her father is a Nth Islander. Its not just the R though poeple speak MUCH slower down there

  • Hard News: A business most feral,

I used to work with Hausmann (not in the health sector) but it gives you a slightly different view on things. Thats said NZ is a VERY small place with limited skillsets in some areas. Conflict of interest is going to happen and just has to be managed properly. I don't know but it is highly likely if you appoint really skilled people who have the business accumen and particular sector knowledge, to a board position, they will also be involved in the business/private sector side.

Ah Riverton. Growing up in Southland we had a crib there (NOT a bach). My relatives were (and are still) from all round the southern coast. Your post and photo have made me think about going 'home' again

  • Cracker: Fear Factor,

I am impressed by your stance on interviews. I live on the other side of the airport and have been almost ducking everytime a plane goes over since Sunday.
