  • Hard News: Medical Matters,

Thanks Jeremy (and all the other fellas here) who get it.

It does make a difference knowing one's right to one's own bodily autonomy is supported by most men nowadays.

And cheers Deborah for your tautoko earlier. Like you, I can't be bothered engaging with the "forced birthers" as we feminazis call them.

Can someone wake me up when women count as people, all the time, in all situations?

  • Hard News: Medical Matters,

    Danielle - exactly.

I'm not sure how many wombs the men here possess, but I'm guessing not many, if any.

It is a great misfortune that men are unable to become pregnant, and the spilt second they can, and not a moment sooner, I will be fascinated to know their positions on abortion, legally speaking. When that magnificent day dawns, I will be most interested in the "rights of the Father" regarding a life form that can't survive outside the body of a human.

When I had an abortion 18 months ago, I didn't mind the process leading up to the termination; it helped clarify for me that I was making the right decision.
I found it helpful to have a "stand-down" period during which I was able to become more firm in my position.
It certainly wasn't an easy thing to do, and I needed the delay to make sure.
Making abortion available on demand, with perhaps at least one mandatory chat with a counsellor, seems like a sensible way forward.

If there really is going to be some sort of debate about abortion law in New Zealand, I do hope the other 17,000-odd women who had terminations in the year 2007 alone, will chime in.

True, David, but of course the same could be said of a sword/steel pipe/baseball bat/ criket bat/candle stick/lead piping in the Conservatory.

  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

Jeremy - yep, I'm assuming that is what he means by being anti-ammunition.
I'm not buying that line though, mostly because I saw a movie once where the villain used ice, shaped like bullets, to shoot people and leave no trace. I don't want to encourage the underground trade in bullet-icetrays.

Gareth - I guess you can have all the guns you want, but without the little projectiles that make them weapons, they're not terribly dangerous...

I guess I could amend it to "Girls like bands for the Rock AND for the Coque".

  • Hard News: Copyright Abuse,

Robyn, you're not helping my thesis that girls can like bands for the Rock as much as the Coque.
