  • Speaker: How is Government evaluating…, in reply to Rosemary McDonald,

In fact, despite Sandra Waddell stating that the organisation was going to be completely independant of government back in I think 2008*, the NZDSN recieves more in government grants/contracts than it does from its membership subscriptions….

I'm having problems verifying this....the Radio NZ Pod cast I have saved on my hard drive says 2008...but I downloaded it in 2010. I can't seem to find this particular interview between Sandie Waddell and Mike Gourely on the otherwise very complete Radio NZ database. If I perchance have the only copy of this interview...and anyone wants to hear it...you'll need to tell me how to get it from me to thee ...

I'm also losing my touch...the new Charities Services website tells me the NZDSN is not on the register.....thank goodness I managed to download a couple years of NZDSN's financials....

  • Speaker: How is Government evaluating…,

“” ….it pays to stay in touch with what is going on in the UK, in Britain, as that is where much of the “reform ideas” we have adopted here in New Zealand are coming from:”

The ILF can be compared to our Individualised Funding. For the same reasons, IF is a preferred option for those with high needs who struggle to get the supports they need through a contracted provider. One of the major inhibitors of IF is that even if it is the best option for the disabled person, they are (in theory) prevented from employing a resident family member.

Sorry to bang on about Atkinson and the resultant amendment to the PHDAct….but the thought of this significant factor in the low uptake of IF somewhat rattled the New Zealand Disability Support Network….the government funded organisation that protects the intrests of MOH, ACC, MSD and DHB Contracted Care Providers.

This piece of research appeared on the NZDSN website about the time that we were waiting for the HRRT decision on Atkinson.

    http://lx.iriss.org.uk/content/your-service-navigating-future-market-health-and-social-care

    “Local authorities are reviewing
their traditional contractual relationship with service
providers and will end some of these relationships. Indeed,
advice from the DoH is that block contracts should be
reduced and short- to mid-term solutions identified where
appropriate, although some commissioning will still be
required because some level of demand for the old model of
service delivery may persist for some time beyond 2011.”

It is my opinion that this research, and the UK experience of ILF, contributed significantly to the NZDSNs public opposition to the Appeal Court decision on Atkinson…and god only knows what pressure this outfit exerted on Government that led to the 17th May 2013 travesty.

I would really like to know how the roll out of ILF affected those contracted providers in the UK…and just how much influence these corporations had on the UK govt. to back track on this scheme.

  • Speaker: Not even a statistic,

To "Katrina", such courage to speak out with such clarity. Thank you, and may you find healing.

To Abbie. If there was video evidence of an assault of a sexual nature on a child....under the age of legal consent...why in god's name was there a trial? Surely, in a civilised society, such evidence would be sufficient to spare the victim from inquisition? Again, we look around for someone to blame for a travesty like that...the lawyers on both sides? The Judge? The police?

To Emma. "To admit that it's not her fault, that there's nothing you can do, is to admit that you can't protect yourself, and that's terrifying."

You CAN protect yourself. The Crimes Act specifically allows it. Teach our daughters to defend themselves...permission to go into beserker mode if threatened. Pull out every weapon at their disposal. Teach our daughters that they are in control, teach them to be stroppy and staunch. If the attacker holds a gun/knife to you...and 'cooperation' is unavoidable, teach our daughters to remember every little detail that could potentially lead to a conviction. Then ensure that the FIRST port of call for any woman raped or assaulted is a victim focussed support organisation....before they enter the possibly victim hostile police system.

I put the responsibility on we mothers/aunties/ grandmas/sisters, because sure as hell the system is NOT going to change.

Enough men are not going to change.

  • Hard News: Dotcom: Further news of the unlikely, in reply to Sacha,

that’s the future of work. the days of toiling down t’mine are well-past.

    Toiling down the mine...hopefully.

Hard graft that leaves one sweaty and sore and calloused of hand?

Not well- past by a LONG chalk.

Who builds the house and digs the garden and and collects the rubbish and tends the livestock and cares for the sick and elderly and disabled?

Who takes the boat out to sea and sets the longline and hauls it in? Cleans the fish?

Who builds and repairs the roads and the power lines, who fixes your car and brings ultrafast broadband to your door?

    etc. etc.

Can't see either of those twerps doing ANY of that stuff, day in day out.

    It would be beneath them.

Can you point to any Internet Party policies that will help rich people get richer?

    No.

Whereas they still admire Key as the social climber they’re largely unlikely to become.

Sorry...I cannot for the life of me figure out exactly what is the basis for this man's popularity. He isn't intelligent or streetsmart. He has no sense of humour. He takes obseqiousness to new depths when in the company of the few he considers his betters.

The polls say he has sex appeal. For whom, or what???

He has no personality. At least we could all actively dislike Muldoon...

And yet, for some bizzarre reason, he keeps topping the polls.

On the other hand, in all our travels and all the chats we have had with strangers, we have only found one person who actually thinks Key has any worth.

And even he had doubts about Key's humanity.

  • Hard News: Dotcom: Further news of the unlikely, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

Can anyone explain the hatred for Dotcom?

    Now, where do I start.

Its visceral. My gut roils at the sight and sound of both him and John Key.

I find images of either kissing babies or kuia very disturbing.

They both have equal lack of sincerity, a certain supercilliousness, an "I know heaps that YOU don't know" look in their eyes.

Both use their wealth....and here's my working class roots showing...wealth not made by the sweat of their brows, to make the world a better place for them and their ilk.

They both believe, with just cause I'm afraid to say, that they can actually buy peoples hearts, minds and souls.

Because at some stage, they too were bought.

P.S. I said German, because it conveniently allterates with Jolly and giant.

No xenophobia intended. Herr Dotcom is as much a Kiwi as John Key.

I loathe Key, but I think this buffoon anywhere near political power will be worse. In a different way, of course.

It amazes me how people who rightly point out that running a company isn’t like running the nation seem to be giving this circus any credence. I was hoping that Laila would keep her hands firmly on the reins, but if the clown with the chequebook keeps trying to hog centre ring with his fan dances (thanks, Craig), the party’s attempts at gaining any political credibility will fail.

Agree totally on all points....other than the last.

Methinks perhaps that many will fall for the clown....if Laila and Hone did....what hope for the rest ?

    Dotcom actually seems less weird.

That kind of says it all...in a nutshell...so to speak.
