Heh, I was trying to work out who that was in the picture. God I'd totally forgotten about Charo but I can almost hear her voice in my head now. Although I can't remember what I would've seen her on...
I hope Fiona's right about One switching its Saturday & Sunday Brit dramas - could do with having the longer show before Simon Schama's Power of Art so it isn't up against Jericho. Our appalling tv reception usually means we can only have one channel at a time (via Sky decoder). The non-Sky version of TV1's generally better than the other channels, so if the schedule's unchanged I'll have my fingers crossed for still weather on Sunday night. That's also my main reason for ignoring Ugly Betty - Hugh Laurie as House wins every time. Damned if I know why, when the character's so nasty.
Hurrah for Dead Like Me returning, it's a bit of a sleeper but I got quite attached. Jewel Staite's guest appearance at the end of season 1 was cute.
That doco on the Conchords a while back was superb and their new show sounds great, I'll definitely be watching it (even if it's up against House).
I'll have to record Wait Until Dark tomorrow - it's on a bit late but I haven't seen it for ages. I always list it as my favourite "old" film, hope it lives up to the memories.
Oh and Fiona - top marks for managing to keep up the posts when your internet's gone funny :)

The observant among you will have noticed that Battlestar Galactica's second season has finally started on TV3
Indeed. Got the DVDs for Xmas and have been making them last - only one episode left. After watching it we always have the "That's so good! Why can't they make more shows this good?!" moment.
I'm tempted to complain about them putting such great stuff on at such rubbish hours, then I think about how many of my evenings are already filled with pretty good shows - I really don't need any more. So I'll probably pick up the Veronica Mars DVDs too.
I think Angela Petrelli has the power of evil, don't you?
Haven't worked that one out yet. She seems to care for her family so probably isn't all bad. How about X-ray vision? No one else has had that yet have they?
Little Fish is screening on Rialto; nice turns from Martin Henderson and Sam Neill
Talk about playing against type - in both cases. I was pretty impressed by the subtlety of the special effects - if I hadn't known who Martin Henderson was I might have thought he really was an amputee.
P.S. Nice to see you writing here again, I was beginning to think being accosted by strangers at BDO might've put you off :)

I agree with Hansel - having a unique name is a good thing, regardless of any harassment you might get or mis-spellings and mispronunciations. I've been called Vanessa, Virgina, Juanita, Anita, Venita... and making people get my name right has been a kind of assertiveness training for me over the years. The other kids in school will find something to tease you about even if you have a completely ordinary name (I'm sure if I hadn't been Venetian Blinds I would've still been the Robot Reader!).
Mind you, there are unusual names, and then there are ones that aren't really names at all. I once had to process a form at work for a family who had named their child PSA Solidarity. If you're out there PSA, I'd love to know what people call you nowadays.
Finally, congratulations to you David - I suspect that those of us who miss Jolisa's tales of the BusyKids can now look forward to some more great writing on early parenthood :)

Really enjoyed this post, and the discussion.
When I saw The Veils in Wellington earlier this year it was my first introduction to their support act, White Birds And Lemons. I remember being astonished by how tight they sounded, especially for such a young band (still teenagers?) - it felt like they'd been playing a LOT. Then I wondered why that was so surprising... I guess if a band really wants to get a lot of practice they'll find a way.

I have the Veils' album, Nux Vomica, and like it well enough, but they're a revelation live.
I agree, but I haven't seen anyone complaining about the way the Veils' set was cut short - they seemed to have been asked to stop early and came off about 7 - 8 minutes before the John Butler Trio were due to start. I'm pretty sure JBT didn't start till their allotted time. Anyone know what happened?
