  • Hard News: Doing over the witness,

Just wondering in terms of context and consequence.
If the Police successfully identified Rawshark - from Hager's stuff or otherwise - tracked he/she down, arrested and charged them. How serious would the charges be? Would they get a fine, a few years inside, a public flogging ?

I mean how serious is the theft of emails compared to say, assault, burglary, drugs or murder?

  • Hard News: Five further thoughts, in reply to Russell Brown,

Damn, that’s a shame. I’ve found what you have to say in this really useful. Let me know if you reconsider.

    +1 I second that Russel

  • Speaker: An Open Letter To David Cunliffe, in reply to Grant McDougall,

This is the most salient point. Labour really needs to clear out the oldies that are there on reputation, not form. The likes of Goff, King, Cunliffe and Mallard all need to retire.

As an oldie myself ( 62) I disagree that age is the problem , its more that those long serving MPs - like Mallard - are just stale and not open to new ideas or different ways of thinking. Maybe all MPs should be biffed after 3 terms .

  • Speaker: Compulsory voting and election turnout,

Just wondering if compulsory voting would be just part of the picture.
What about online voting? It seems just crazy we don't have this and according to this group "A Massey University survey shows that young people are more likely to vote if it is made more convenient"
    Makes sense.
And what about better interdependent advice on who to vote for ? The media just seems a mess of information and opinions . Where do you go for really independent advice on which party would serve your idea of a better world?
It must be really challenging for new voters but if we made it easier to make informed choices maybe they would vote more often.

Apologies if this has already been said up thread , didn't have time to read the whole thread.

  • Speaker: An Open Letter To David Cunliffe,

And why not follow the greens and maori parties with a co leader structure?

  • Speaker: An Open Letter To David Cunliffe,

Fair enough Cunliffe has got to go, personal ambition is just not enough but will a new leader be enough? .
What part did the party president and other behind the scenes advisers play in the defeat?

  • Hard News: The sole party of government,

Thanks Farmer Green a very interesting take from Edwards who has a lot of experience in this. His pragmatic conclusion is rather sad though.

On another note re the Greens .
Garth Morgan is proposing a Blue Green Party

Time for Labour to decline and a wider Green party or parties to emerge?

  • Hard News: The humanity,

And as for blaming Cunliffe , who else was responsible ? The party president, the advisers and media people ? The factions within Labour ?
Are Labour just aping National's el Presidente approach and looking for one heroic leader to pull them all together?
Maybe Labour should be deeply reflecting on the party itself not its leadership.

  • Hard News: The humanity,

But the reporter who missed the moment would not be very popular with his or her boss.

That’s where the problem sits , with the editors, news-editors, producers etc who are driving this hyper sensational reporting. They want dramatic tensions, characters -heros and villains, plots, excitement, tragedy and Poetic Justice. All the elements of theater, film and TV.

I shall get down off my pedestal now and stop ranting.
