  • Hard News: Friday Music: Reinventing Beatles,

Hello - the online ordering system for the One Man Bannister CD should be all up and running tomorrow. In the meantime if you're super keen you can email Andrew: aamaitai@gmail.com and order one. And then your bird can sing :)

  • Hard News: Music: Radio is still relevant,

OK, so I'm a bit biased on this one - but for anyone even remotely of the punk persuasion, Phil Armstrong's "Essence of Punk" show on 95bFM (7 - 9pm on Mondays) is...well, essential. And his alter-host James Burnett on the opposite Mondays plays some very nice psychedelia-inspired tunes.

I am acquainted with the spa pool in the womens' quarters of Les Mills and I can't recall seeing any such sign there!

Perhaps they share Queen Victoria's supposed view that women don't do such things (and I say "supposed" because that particular view, which was ascribed to Victoria, was possibly started in Wellington in 1977 "to explain why a demonstration for lesbian equality centred on a statue of Vicky" and so isn't based on Victorian fact at all, if you believe the Fortean Times!)

  • Stories: Joined Up,

I was lured into joining Brownies at the age of seven with stories of horse riding, artistic freedom and exciting adventures. I was bitterly disappointed to find out that it was mainly about arcane crafts that I was no good at and grumpy authoritarian ladies.

The last straw came when we had to play indoor hockey using a stuffed owl as a puck. Not being able to tolerate that level of animal cruelty (or stuffed toy cruelty? - probably about the same thing to me at that age) I walked out in tears and never returned!
