Who would have thought that the mild civil disobediance of not doing a census would result in such a wide range of insults.
Anti-vaccination, paranoid, tin-hats, mocking, irrelevant, delusional, off the planet, non-functioning pothead, paranoid conspiracy theories.

My analogy was in relation to the criminilization of people like me.
The hint is in my user name here..........
The Government ( or parliment if we want to split hairs ), call me a criminal, so does the "justice system".
They bully and try to get their way with force and violence ....................... much like a wife beater.
The wife beater will usualy take a certain drug though, the producers of that drug give large amounts of money to our politicians and they actually buy themselves protection........... its almost like corruption.
And I'm sure the government could use info from our births registrar to determine primary school numbers. That and perhaps council information on which citys are growing or shrinking.
Our governments are bent or rotten in some way.
just like a wife beater.

Martin I have copys of my "life-time" drivers licence and a "life-time" fire-arms licence. Both of these were changed at the whim of the Government.
And its the whim of the Government which decides how confidential the census info is ......................
The NZ govt, whether Nat or Labor has always called people like me criminals, even though I dont hurt anyone or commit any real crimes.
So therefore I'm not going to help any organisation which goes after me to do me harm .
To me our Governmnets are a bit like a husband who sometimes beats his wife when drunk.
Most of the time they can be really good .............. but they still beat their wife.
I suppose I could go the other way with the census ................. I could tell them there are more people at the dwelling than really exist and make up some fictional NZer's with strange habits .

Actually its kinda ironic that Kyle should decide that my not doing a census makes me anti-science.
Some other idiot thought my not doing a census made me anti-vaccination.
I'd like to hear how this govt applies science to drug policy, or education.

My 50 Billion example was to show how the media and Govt use statistics.
To help them lie in a short simple sound bite.
'The bludgers are gonna cost us $50 billion and we cant afford it'.
Any Government dominated by the nats or labor ( which is all of them ), is working for their vested interests and power base's.
It's kinda sweet that you believe Steve, in a government ' genuinely trying to make the best decisions for the people'.
You do know your talking about politicians ?????, those people who ignore science and evidence, who dog whistle, who pander to the mob, who decide things ........ politically.
They are a pack of liars and my not doing the census hurts no-one. Its the status quo.
With the Governor General I feel as connected to this one as any of his predecessors ............. which is not at all.
They're all stuffy old wanks living it up in grand style on massive grounds which should be a nice central park in Wellington, for the people.
They give out knighthoods to drug pushers or something.
And live in a $30 million dollar house.

Of course kyle ....................... I can counter the spin and manipulation of stats that the Nats get printed on the front page of the DomPost or Herald.
A recent example of such spin was the Nats claiming Welfare was going to cost 50 billion per year, if everybody on any benefit never went off it, ever.
This 50 BILLION figure was front page DomPost.
Any contradiction of this propeganda Stat ( it's nasty, right wing bullshit ) will not be on the front page of the dompost.
There's no balance.
People are tricked and fooled.
And the solo parents with their vermin children get it .............

Thankyou for your correction RoB ,I dont know where that urban myth about Samoans started, or even where I first heard it . Do we have Census stats from the times of the dawn raids ????. Late 70's early 80's.

But the statistics department does have rather heavy regulations compelling people to comply with whatever information they wish to gather from you.
They dont just do the census.
Martin suggested a tin hat for me.
If he believes the natianal govt ( or those Labor jerks ,) use census information for our good, then I think the hat was made for him.
