  • ChrisW,

How long has English been living in Wellington for now?

You’d have thought at least some of the accent would’ve worn off.

But OTOH I unmistakably heard him say he was providing another 36 million dollars to improve numeracy and literary standards.

Well, maybe the accent did confuse me and he really said littering standards.

Probably all the Standard & Poors semen clogging up his windpipe, if the economically psychotic (and disappointingly weak) speeches from Messers Goff and Norman are anything to go by.

Personally, I think you're not doing too badly when you've managed to annoy both the loony left and the rabid right.

And politically, I think Labour really doesn't have much credibility to complain about broken promises because, if you cut the crap, they'd have been *cough* "reprioritising" the promises Labour shouldn't have made in the first place, and IMHO knew they couldn't afford as well.

  • Kyle Matthews,

It's not money on top of the Budget though - it's spending WITHIN the budget. So it's part of the surplus/deficit.

I know. Hence reducing it reduces the deficit, increasing it reduces the surplus.

That still doesn't answer my question. You could achieve the same long term effect by saving more when you're in surplus, and less when you're in deficit couldn't you?

  • mildgreens,

    And ETS fits in where?

(perhaps Bill English is is going to contract and converge sometime soon!)

And despite citizens and police being mown down as collateral damage in the war on drugs, English believes the answer to prohibition is more prohibition.... JK is coming gunning for your house if ya grow pot! The National Caucus (and hangers on) believes it will improve the balance of payments~! No doubt getting that sage advice from the nations Drug Intelligence gurus - the POLICE, how else do they fund 300 more cops for Counties Manukau. 300 more police who are going to find a lot of pot validating the cannabis-crime nexus! and save us form all that harm.

The boondoggle that is the NZ criminalisation industry, must be choking on the knowledge that the Netherlands is closing 5 prisons, and only keeping another three because Belgium will pay the Dutch for the warehousing of its citizens.
