Speaker: Part 9: Fred Ain't Dead

  • Bingle Struthers,

While I concur that athletes shouldn't lower themselves to adolescent web-sites, I implore you not to glamorise the antics of that common oaf Flintoff.
He just needs a good smack and a few early training sessions. One assumes Sue Kedgley isn't following the world cup, and doesn't yet have Duncan Fletcher in her omnipotent leftie clutches.

  • Rich of Observationz,

Cricket isn't a team sport in the sense of continuous co-operation => it's a game played by a group of individuals.

When Freddie is on form, he's excellent - when he's not - hmmmmm

If you're trying to win cricket matches, and especially if you've got the paucity of talent that afflicts England, you need to field anyone who can get wickets / runs. Even if they're a personal disaster area.

(Of course part of the reason for that affliction is that English pro cricketers have a Very Bad Attitude. Basically cricket is the averagely well paid job that they do because their golf isn't good enough for a pro career).

At least Gower was sober when he buzzed the team hotel in that biplane - and Botham played better stoned (allegedly) than anyone else did when straight.

  • Paul Williams,

The best thing about the Poms is their supporters. Them and Monty. They were awful during the Ashes test, boring and negative. The only way the could be worse would be if Clive Woodward was their coach.

Bingle what the heck are you on about? You're grasping at a well-worn pitch, and referring to the wrong politician.

    That's just not cricket, mate.

At 29 you'd think Flintoff would've grown up his ideas a bit.

I think our Louie will get his batting form back when he's up against a team that fires him up (read: Aussies). He just doesn't have enough hate or passion to strike hard against the Kenyans. But I have faith he'll come through where it's required.

What a sad development re Bob Woolmer today. :o(

I can't work out which is more tragic. The thought that he died from the stress or despair of losing to the Irish or the prospect that some fan(atic) has murdered him? Either way, I suspect Greg Chappell will be keeping his distance from Ganguly.

  • the E,

I think the chance of murder is WAY sadder. Especially for the family who must be waking up to the realisation that his death was truly untimely. Surely a natural death is easier (!) to come to terms with.

Exactly so sad about Pakistan / England relationships & potential damage here.

It was only recently that Imran Khan spoke out to say that wins or losses on the day are up to Inzamam-ul-Haq - NOT the coach.
