Speaker: Part 2: Remembering Kenya

  • simon g,

The "Kenya myth" is NZ cricket's version of Suzy the waitress, isn't it? A necessary self-delusion, now well established, often repeated, rarely questioned.

Minor facts: the Black Caps qualified for the Super Sixes anyway, despite not going to Kenya. They then lost to Australia and India, for which no Nairobi native could be held even remotely responsible. But they did beat Zimbabwe. (A feat also matched by ... er ... Kenya).

    We wuzn't robbed.

  • simon g,

On second thoughts, Suzy's involvement is subject to much more scepticism than the Nairobi nonsense. Mind-edit accordingly, please.

  • LegBreak,

Does the average New Zealander blame Kenya for not reaching the semis last time around? I'd have thought we blamed consecutive collapses against SA and India for that.

Having said that, what a blessed run Kenya had. In a topsy-turvy group they had NZ defaulting (abdicating?) a home win against can't give a toss Lankans, and then other results going their way in every game meaning they went through carrying maximum points.

And what do you know??? On the other side of the draw was even-worse Zimbabwe who had also made it through die to terrorism / political issues.

So they beat them, and they're into the final 4 (as 3rd qualifier no less)

  • reece palmer,

The only terrorists in barbados are the ones with bottles of Mt Gay, sheaves of the local herb and a 20,000 watt (RMS,oooh!) PA mounted on the back of their vespa. So we'll be there for the Kenya game and we'll bash 'em good, you mark my word. The spinners are going to clean up here, how much are those convicts going to miss warney?
