  • Jackie Clark, in reply to Morgan Nichol,

I didn't answer this correctly at the time, Morgan. We'll be setting up a givealittle page. We're just waiting for the accountant of the Refuge to register with the Telecom Foundation first. Make things more official, like.
The first board meeting is at the end of January so I expect to hear soon what's happening around that.

  • Jackie Clark,

The pantry is officially empty. One of my lovely tweeps did a huge shop for Refuge just after Xmas, and all that food is gone. To fill the pantry, and another cupboard, it was over $400.
People have been sending supermarket vouchers (Countdown is the closest one) and that’s just amazing, but I’d like to fill the pantry up! (It’s a bit of an obsession)
The Refuge gets donated bread, and the women are provided milk/tea/coffee
The women have been sharing meals – they haven’t been really able to do that too much till now and it’s making a really big difference in relationships, and settling new women in, too. They’ve been able to do that with noodles, meat, and vegies from the garden. And they seem to be using the pantry canned goods for lunches (tinned spaghetti, tinned meals etc – there are still heaps of cans of baked beans which they aren’t so keen on.)
So: you can help by either sending supermarket vouchers to the Refuge directly, or maybe doing an online shop and getting it delivered to Refuge. Just email me and I will give you the details, and if you want to do this, will get your details too, so you can let me know when the delivery is being made, and I can let the women know.
(They’re a bit fed up with people just turning up with no warning.)

  • Jackie Clark,

Christina would like you all to know that the current most urgent needs are:

    Needed at the refuge:
Cooking lessons: Volunteers for Tuesdays 1-2pm. With a team of ladies, can be rostered on.

Household appliances such as blender, blender sticks/whizzes, slow cooker etc to teach the ladies how to make soups, and home cooked easy meals.

Gardening: Looking for anyone with tree care knowledge to prune and tend to our young fruit trees a couple times a year, can be during the weekend.

Looking for anyone to assist with our huge vegetable garden from time to time to give our elderly gardener a break, can be during the weekend.

I have also posted an updated list of needs here: List of needs: Feb 2014

  • Jackie Clark,

Has anyone got 1) a vaccuum cleaner? (This is for H who has recently had her chn removed from her custody temporarily while she gets her life together. She's moving towns to be near them, and has got a house to go it. She says it's the only thing she needs. It's not, but it's a start.)
    2) board games. A wee while ago, two of the older teenagers asked for Monopoly and Scrabble, and R (12) asked for Connect 4. A couple of lovely people responded, and the games were duly delivered. They have, however, disappeared. This is a bit of an occupational hazard - it doesn't happen a great deal, and when it does, it's always small things. They're also without Wifi at the moment while Rob Isaac figures out a better way of doing things around the Internet usage (as soon as the kids got hold of the wifi password, usage went through the roof. School hols, bored kids, etc). So they're making full use of the games and having family boardgame nights. A great thing, but they're a bit stumped by lack of games, again.
If anyone has copies of these games they wish to give, please contact me.
    Thanks ever so much.

  • Jackie Clark,

I need prepay SIMS - about 20 of them, if anyone is able to help. Some of the phones we were given had expired SIMS and we need to replace them fairly quicksmart.

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

Hi Jackie. What about hitting up 2 degs. They have cheap ones and often free ones. Surely you could get them on board.

  • Jackie Clark,

I should make it clear that the reason I don't go out and actively hit up big players is that I haven't the time - I have a paying job as well. Rob and I are thinking of setting up a body so that big corporates are more willing to give us stuff, but at the moment, it's just us going around with our hands out.
    Just to clarify.

What you're already doing is huge and amazing. The way you tell stories that move people to act for a cause would put many a PR professional to shame.

And I'm about to do it again.
This morning Rob Isaac and I went out to Refuge ( I normally go about once a week, sometimes more) and M was able to finally give me her story, that she had wanted to write.
    So here it is

  • Jackie Clark,

I just wanted to pop in and say thank you to everyone from PAS who has supported the refuge in the last 18 months. And I have exciting news. We have a givealittle - after a lot of consideration, and it being a dream of mine to feed the families at refuge, I have partnered with a dear friend of mine. We have a bank account and a givealittle page solely designed to feed the families. The givealittle page is here.. If you wish to contribute on a regular basis, our account number is : 12-3069-0308648-01
    Thank you so much.

  • Jackie Clark,

    Hello, my friends.
Things at Auntie Central are getting busy (well, it’s always busy to be honest).
I wanted to say thank you for everything the PAS readership and community have done for the refuge, and keep you up to date a bit.
I’ve done a weeny bit of media sort of stuff in the last few months.

Here’s my blog post which tells you all about who the Twitter Aunties are.

An interview I did with Vaughan Davis on RadioLive

A wee article in the Manukau Courier.

And an interview I did with Bryan Crump on National Radio.

So that tells you more about what this has turned into since my very first post on this about 9 months ago.
Thanks for everything you do, and are.
I couldn’t have done any of this without your support.
