  • Stephen Judd,

is anyone else disturbed by the Heineken Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Bier slogan at the end of the TV ad

Yeah, I was, and I sent them a nastygram.

But we have to face it. The Nazis did pioneering work in mass communication and propaganda. Any big campaign runs the risk of evoking Nazi tropes, because they got there first. Six or seven decades later, there are plenty of pimply faced youths who won't know any better.

  • Hadyn Green,

Also, surely we're all excited to watch the opening game?

France. Argentina. It's got "upset" written all over it.

    Damn you're good.

I do alright, send all money to The Dropkicks

  • Danielle,

But for the love of god, will no camera-person search the crowd for that crazed mariachi band, or whatever the fuck they are? I desperately want to see them! They're making the game infinitely better! (Although they're probably adding to that whole 'ninth circle of hell' thing for the Italians...)

  • Michael Fitzgerald,

Is Heino just an NZ based sponsor?

I seem to remeber the All Blacks Red Tape over their Steinlager sponsored jerseys a few years back.

In Canty DB are infamous for taking kids CD raincoats off them in the pouring rain. Not that anyone would see the CD over the kids tums anyway - much like the CD seat cushion they took off the grannies.

    Chris

With the exception of Sivivatu, all those funny brown people in black were born or brought up in NZ.

How about a new IRB rule where you had to at least attend primary school in a country to represent them? We keep all bar Sivivatu. How many other nations could say the same? Wales?

Don't be brainwashed by your media. Do some research into immigration patterns instead. Cheers.

21 of the squad of 22 were born here, I think. The exception being Sivivatu, and he played here for Wesley College from the age of 15.

Collins and Rodney were both born in Samoa, but they went to school here. (Which is the important thing)

Anyone checked out the England cricket team recently?

    Whut?

But about the game: I found it incredibly dull after a while. The last few minutes were good though (Italy should've got that last try).

England v USA looked good. USA looked equal parts intense and lucky.

So what happens if the RWC turns out to be a parade of such games? Will we be all jaded and shit about winning the thing?

Of course, we'll never be happy :)

Nah the knock out games will be good.

  • Jeremy Andrew,

Its always nice to chalk up a win, but Italy were never going to be a real threat. As long as the team don't get overconfident after a few early walkovers.
Looking forward to some games that will make the ABs work a bit harder - not that working up a sweat seems to be hard there in the South of France, its like watching the first few games of the Super 14 , seems wrong, playing under blue summery skies.
Too many games like the Italy one could leave one and one's girlfriend in a coma.

I see Chris Jack is now sporting a mustache. As if he didn't look like The Office's Finchie already, now he's an absolute dead ringer.

He's thrown a kettle over a pub you know. What have you done?

    Samoa v Sth Africa
The commentators said the crowd were yelling "Allez Les Bleu!"
I swear it was "Honiss is a wanker".

can't see them crying "win-na" after a few walkovers.

my greater concern is injury. woodcock is bruised as well now.
