  • Craig Ranapia,

    Logical, Asperger's Zack a killer? I don't think so.

It might (just might) have been kind of creepy-cool if it had been set up or foreshadowed in anyway. Instead it just screamed "oh, shit, everyone things this whole X-Files lite Gormagon thing sucks, blows, chokes and pees on the carpet." And I agree, Bones works as a chamber piece, and tonally a hell of a lot lighter than the CSI and Lorda Norda franchises.

  • Graeme Edgeler,

Science fiction is coming. That’s if you haven’t already downloaded it from teh internets, put it on a flash drive and played it on your 32-inch widescreen LCD TV via your PS3.

Or just waited for the DVDs to come all the way to region 4 and bought them from your local Whitcoulls...

[Only a little unfair, we actually got BSG season 3 before region 1. Damn them.]

  • Emma Hart,

We finished watching the final episode of Dr Who and switched back to TV just in time to see Booth in the bath.
    Son: That looks like Angel
    Me: It's the same actor
Son: He's not wearing a shirt in this, either.
    Me: Yeah, I noticed that...

Yuh-huh. Once they'd backed themselves into that corner, they only had three suspects for the Young Apprentice, and exactly none of them were plausible.

  • Craig Ranapia,

Meanwhile, who wants to bet Life on Mars isn't rating particularly well on One, and nobody's going to quite make the connection with the DVD box set having been on sale for a couple of months. The though processes of television programmers are truly a wonder to behold, because they seem determined to make sure you don't want to watch their shows.

Oh well, back to watching Jonathan Rhys-Myer's historically implausible but utter adorable arse getting maximum exposure in The Tudors. :) (Really -- did they have personal trainers and boob jobs in 15th century England?)

Whereas,I find it utterly implausible that nobody has noticed Dexter Morgan is an affectless sociopath because Michael C. Hall is way too good at doing the whole 'the lights are on, and nobody you want to meet is home' vibe. And it never gets turned off. But Dexter is just so high on it's own gleeful malevolence, and everyone is horribly screwed up in one way or the other, it just makes sense.

  • Russell Brown,

Yup: there wasn't even a plausible explanation for Zack's fall into the dark side. The Master's apparently impeccable logic was undone in about 30 seconds and Zack just sort of went "oh, okay ..." and told them where to find the bad guy, who turned out to be just some guy.

It really was "shit! how fast can we get out of this lame story arc!?"

One thing I'll miss: watching Bones in HD on the Freeview box. Most of TV3's HD offerings aren't to my taste, but that was good enough to lick.

Is The Master from academic quals or from the Noble title of Master, being the brother to the Lord?

Or made use of the excellent TVersity software and streamed it "live" over wifi straight off your puter through PS3 to TV. Take THAT flash drives...

And Bones. Meh. Have never really rated it but that episode was such a waste. Especially when Dexter right after it showed how "shadowy killer living right in your midst" could be done better. Not perfectly, but certainly better.

I really enjoyed the Terminator series. They did well - be interesting to see if Summer Glau turns up in the new movie. I suspect not.

I've yet to see Battlestar Galactica, but I'm tempted... should I start from the get go with DVDs or will I pick it up from the start of the new season?

You can pick it up, but if you can somehow see the two-part season two finale 'Lay Down Your Burdens' over the next twenty-four hours you know why (nearly) everyone is on this sodding rock, and nobody is very happy about it. But do try and see the rest of the show because -- IMNSHO -- it's the best show on television. Period and full stop.

And if you're still, like, watching TV -- commit yourself to the new season of Doctor Who from Sunday. It is teh awesome.

  • 3410,

I literally fell asleep during that Bones ep.; mind you, that was partly because of Federer-/-Nadal-induced jet-lag. That was one hell of a match. Prime has taken something of a hit in the last few days, what with Desperate Black Wives II and all, but props to them for their Wimbledon coverage.

High speed internet, a big cap and torrents have made the tyranny of free-to-air scheduling a thing of the past in our household, we've already watched the latest BSG series in high definition and its a cracker!

Prime presumedly? Might try that one on

BSG is something I've tried to get in to, but felt each time that I've missed too much from previous episodes so don't stick around.
Might try watching from the get-go on C4...

Que? Are you about to save me from having to buy those DVDs?

  • B Jones,

C4 seems to be starting with series 3 - I think 1 and 2 were both shown on TV3 in the distant past. So it's not an ideal place to start, but it isn't the worst. Like Craig said, the last couple of eps from the previous series help a lot with answering questions like "how did that narcissistic bastard get to be president?" "who's that teacher with the long dark hair and why is she important?" "what's with the blonde woman in that house?" and "what happened to the actual Battlestar?"

  • Julie Fairey,

Surely the fact that TV2 is getting teh Torchwood out is a sign of the end times? I feel like I've been waiting forever. Thanks for the good news!

Third the advice on watching the two-ep finale of season 2 BSG so that you don't come into season 3 completely cold, but if you can shoehorn in the whole thing, from mini-series onward, it is so worth it. I was a bit of a late adopter, but it really is the best thing I've seen on telly for a very very very long time. Although I was half-way through series 1 of The Wire when our subwoofer (through which the sound for the dvd is routed) went on holiday, that is also very excellent.

I'm curious about the references to the Master too, because I got confused and thought people were talking about Dr Who not Bones...

Sorry Andrew - I got the wrong end of C4s marketing. I thought they were picking it up from Series 1.

    To the torrents!!!!

  • B Jones,

The price of the series 1 and 2 dvd set, last time I saw them in Whitcoulls, had dropped to the point at which it was worth it to get those rather than spend hours and bandwidth to torrent slightly worse quality versions.

I missed the miniseries before I watched most of season 1, and was terminally confused by Baltar's fantasy sequences and what Helo was up to on Caprica. Some of the season 3 cylon stuff would be a bit weird for new recruits.

Poneke is pissed off that after waiting so long to screen it, they've buried it at 10.30pm. And then they'll act surprised when Season 1 doesn't go well ...
