  • Jeremy Andrew,

I always choose my words thoughtfully

I spotted the ironicness - I just wanted an excuse to use the visual pun 20mg = ZOMG!!!!

  • Kyle Matthews,

This in itself is, like, totally awesome, but it gets even more awesomer: it's hosted by Dominic Bowden.

Wow. Now he's world famous in EnZed, and taking the world by storm.

I feel stupidly proud, and I think he's terrible at hosting those shows.

Awesomer seems to me to be a perfectly cromulent word.

  • Fiona Rae,

__Hex__ has played before (series 1, I presume), on TV2 at about 1.00am on a weeknight.

Whoa – totally right, I looked back at the listings for week 43. Nice to know the listing actually wasn't wrong. TV.com has ep details.

Looks like the Dom's plans to be the next Ryan Seacrest are well underway, according to this story anyway, although ratings haven't been great.

    'Sopranos' Creator Defends Famous Finale

Chase says the New Jersey mob boss "had been people's alter ego. They had gleefully watched him rob, kill, pillage, lie and cheat. They had cheered him on. And then, all of a sudden, they wanted to see him punished for all that. They wanted 'justice'...

"The pathetic thing to me was how much they wanted HIS blood, after cheering him on for eight years."

I think it's hilarious how in that story he relates that he was working on his tan before the audition. Note to Mr. Fanta Pants: if you tan any more, you're going to mistaken for a pumpkin, and a bunch of larrikans will smash you on Wednesday.

So ... no more Letterman for a while then.

At least when Americans strike they do it properly ... none of this "three hours next Tuesday" guff. Go out, stay out, see you in five and a half months.

Yay! The Sarah Silverman Program ' starts C4 9.30pm Wednesday.

  • Danielle,

Yes, yay! Sarah Silverman is pure hilarity. (Although, partial boo: TSSP seems to replace It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which is very very good indeed and, according to all reports, only gets better after Danny DeVito joins the cast.)

Also, another boo... no more Daily Shows until further notice because of the strike? Did I hear that aright?

It looks like there are still last minute attempts to avoid the strike going on.

It does seem a pretty valid issue, writers wanting more of a share of the on selling, DVD's etc of their work. Writers always appear to get the short end of the stick. It's almost like no one likes to admit that all the wonderful and witty lines spouted by the stars don't come from inside their own heads, but are compiled by the gnomes feverishly toiling in the background and beamed up on to the auto cue.

  • Danielle,

Oh, I agree. And actually, that reality show writers' strike from a while back seemed reasonable to me too - I mean, *someone* has to create an artificial story arc out of all those people acting like idiots...

  • Jeremy Andrew,

On a related note, Family First and the catholic church really, really want you to watch Californication. Why else would they put out a press release about perverted sex & drug use in it?

Family First has called for families to boycott companies advertising during the first episode of what it described as the drug, sex and vomit-laden Californication on Thursday night.

And New Zealand's Catholic Church has branded the show as evil.

  • InternationalObserver,

I watched an episode of Californication in Australia recently and was unimpressed. The Duchovny character struck me as a sleazy loser, a feeling not shared by any of the female characters he comes into contact with. Including the 16 y.o. daughter of his friend, who he bonks as well.

In the episode I watched he meets a stranger at the 7/11 and they go home and bonk - I thought that stuff only happened in Penthouse Forum but then I don't look like Duchovny so what do I know?

I thought (to my self) the whole thing was ludicrous and then my wife, completely unprompted (apropos of nothing) blurts out: "I wouldn't kick him out of bed". Eh? What brought that on? You'd have thought I'd asked for the DVD Box Set of Dark Angel for Xmas ...

So, out of spite let me quote television without pity

We like David Duchovny, but not enough to keep covering a show in which he plays a drunken, hipper-than-thou lech who's supposedly a brilliant writer, but spends more time sleeping with every woman in L.A., including a sixteen-year-old. And that was just in the first episode. He fought, he drank, he showed his butt, he made clever sexual puns, but it only took six episodes to figure out that this thing wasn't going anywhere. Farewell, Pussyman, farewell.

  • Bob Munro,

When deciding whether a new show is for me or not I usually find something that leaps out to announce it. This line in the Wikipedia post about Californication did it for me.

'The show makes many references to the work of Warren Zevon'. Yay! It can't go wrong.

  • InternationalObserver,

I don't think the show was canned after 6 eps, just that television without pity weren't going to bother recapping episodes anymore. The ep I saw was the last one recapped by TWP, but I don't recall the Australian channel referring to it as 'the final episode'.

  • Bob Munro,

No that's right. Looks like it's going to go to a second series. Your review of it does make it less than enticing even with all the Warren Zevon references IO. :)

I'll actually be watching because one of the side characters (the agent) was interesting. But then I'm a sucker for spanking (it's always funny on TV). The sex is fairly explicit for MSTV.

the 9.30pm timeslot is a bit close to family viewing times which perhaps helps fuel the outrage as pointed out by Andrew.

Oh, so C4 were well out of order with their screening of the SouthPark movie the other night at 8.30pm? Which pretty much launched straight into

    c%ck$ucker

    @rsehole

Of course they didn't have the balls to say cnut.

  • Bob Munro,

Yes I came in about halfway through the South Park movie and had forgotten how much fun it was. I'd remembered the Blame Canada song but not much else (our kids have Canadian cousins so they have always loved that). There were all these references that went by so fast in the general hilarity that I looked it up in Wikipedia today to try and catch up.
    Did you know?

The movie's use of profanity gained it a spot in the 2002 edition of Guinness World Records for "Most Swearing in an Animated Film" (399 profane words, including 146 uses of fuck, 76 uses of shit, and 68 uses of bitch, 128 offensive gestures and 221 acts of violence).

I don't think I would have gone to a theatre to see it so guess it must have been on TV before? Perhaps several times? Maybe the Family First types had their go at it then?

By the look of this article on Stuff
advertisers have turned away with only minimal pressure.

Family First said Cadbury, Ferrit, Burger King, CRC and Finish had asked that their ads not be shown during the programme...

TV3 marketing director Roger Beaumont said there had been "a few dozen phone calls".
