'6' & '7'? it's digital TV for heaven's sake, not that clunky rotary dial on the side of the old black and white TV. Don't they know on digital TV are now allowed to use letters, even more than one at a time.

Personally I see it as a massive lack of imagination on someone's part.

I do this stuff for a living - modern TV protocols use multi-lingual strings, at the very least they should be capable of useful names in both English and Maori and probably a dozen other commonly used languages as well

I think they took the non-imaginative, KISS route: the two channels are on buttons 6 and 7 respectively on the Freeview remote.

  • Craig Ranapia,

    cylon babe Tricia Helfer.

Not only a babe, but Battlestar Galactica also happened to find perhaps the only ex-Victoria's Secret model who can really act. (No, whatever Tyra Banks does is not acting,) Only hope there's some truth to the rumours that Helfer and Lucy Lawless get a nice juicy plotline as BSG comes to a close...

  • Graeme Edgeler,

So what's with the order we're getting The Power of Art in?

    It's not chronological.

It's not the order they aired in the UK.

But it is the order they're listed in on the menu on the BBC page of the series...

  • InternationalObserver,

We're now seeing episodes of Men in Trees that haven't screened in the US yet. Crikey.

Someones head (in schedules) will roll when management find that out. MIT should have been stopped at the pentultimate episode with a statement from TVNZ PR that this will allow a decent run of the all new series at some future time six - eight months from now.

So... you're telling me GBLT isn't a sandwich?

Not unless you take the L out. They don't mind standing alongside T but they're divided on whether B actually exists at all. And truth be told they're not big fans of G either, because of their connection to HM (who taint the B's) and who haven't been allowed anywhere near this sandwhich.

  • Lucy Stewart,

    • Read this after tonight's final of Supernatural (TV2); season two has already finished in the US and season three has a guest-star from – OMG! – cylon babe Tricia Helfer.

Actually, the Tricia Helfer ep, Roadkill, occurs in the second half of season two. She was pretty good in it, despite a script with a "twist" that any good horror/sci-fi/fantasy viewer could pick up about five minutes in. I like Supernatural, but no one ever said it was an awfully smart programme.

Boy, that deserves a prize for the best use of understatement in a PAS comment. Supernatural is much like Smallville . Sometimes I'm just in the mood to power down the brain and pig out on eye candy, but I don't make a point of catching either show. (Compare and contrast with Veronica Mars which has eye candy up the wazoo for all genders and sexualities, and some smart writing.) But I agree with you: Helfer was pretty good in a predictable story - and I guess we're going to have to get used to it, because shows like Galactica just don't come along every day. Which is (I guess) tough titty for (IMO) the best ensemble cast on television, full stop.

  • Kebabette,

Cheers for the heads up on new Extras, that one has slipped under my radar.

When will they screen season 3 of Battlestar? There are some webisodes online to connect season 2 and 3 to feed Battlestar fever in the meantime. Tricia Helfer scares the bejesus out of me.

I yearn for the days of the rotary channel dial. That satisfying "clunk" as it slotted into the next setting. As kids it was our job to do dad's bidding when the channel needed changing (Their were only two choices but they were on channels 3 and 7 on our old B&W set... 4 clunks left or 4 clunks right.. those were the days!!)

Someone should build a remote that has a "clunky" rotary dial which translates into and transmits the correct Infrared code for the channel number. That would be retro cool.

That would be the era when there were no seat belts in the back seats of cars? In fact the back seat was always one long bench seat meaning you'd sliiiiide all the way across everytime Dad took a bend too tight on that long drive to Piha every weekend.
By 'you' I mean 'you' not 'me' -- I'm way too young to have lived in the olden days.

    Yes, it would.

Er ... BTW ... I've tried to get into BSG - but without success. It's right up there with Babylon 5 and Star Trek Deep Space 9 isn't it?

Well, I think so - then again, DS9 is my favourite Trek show precisely because it was (deliberately) intended to be a little darker and more ambiguous rather than the happy-clappy utopia of the standard Trek effort. (Which is why there are so many Trekkies who hate it even more than Enterprise.) Of course, you get the hardcore original series 'Ron Moore raped my childhood - and Starbuck's a MAN damnit!' crowd, but I'll freely admit that it's heavily serialised, tonally pretty grim and that's not to every taste.

    Hell to the yeah!

I thought I had it all figured out, but Utopia freaked me out so much that I was watching through my fingers. And then with the final revelation, I was all OMG! OMG! OMG! It's him!!!

And as for the Sound of Drums, that was more exciting and thrilling and entertaining than scary, but I found myself wrapped up in a ball of tension and excitement as the episode progressed.

I can't wait for the finale!

Oh, friends in England, how I thank thee!

The week before, Blink - made me realise I may not be too old to hide behind the couch.

Sound of Drums is the first time I've ever forced my partner to sit down and watch the episode the day the Friends in England sent it over.

Any truth to the persistent rumour that RTD is quitting after the next series?

    Two words: John Sim!!

Three more words: He. Is. Worthy. Though you've really got to feel a little sorry for Derek Jacobi - there's a really funny patch in the podcast for Utopia, where costume designer Louise Paige and producer Phil Collinson both said how excited he was. And he did a lovely, lovely job with relatively little screen time.

RTD himself has said much as he loves it, he doesn't want to do Doctor Who for the rest of his life. I'd take what the guy says at face value: He's always been hired on a series to series basis, he's far too busy working on series four to even think about series five, and as far he's concerned Who is not dependent on him anyway. And, much as I love the guy's work, he's right.

  • Joanna,

Speaking of spoilers and scary things, but getting totally off topic (but I know she doesn't read this so I can make fun of her here to an understanding audience), I've been watching Twin Peaks with a friend of mine. I saw it years ago and have seen it a couple of times since, but she never has, and i just got Season Two on DVD. Last night we watched the episode where you find out who killed Laura Palmer, and it was hysterical watching her face as a rather brutal nasty freaky killing took place. She was crying and watching through her fingers. Awesome. I love TV that's that powerful.
