Gollancz, the SF and Fantasy imprint of the Orion Publishing Group, announces the launch of the world’s largest digital SFF library, the SF Gateway, which will make thousands of out-of-print titles by classic genre authors available as eBooks.

My husband gets excited about very little, and he is new to the whole online game, but he did get his knickers in a twist about this. "Just imagine" he said " I don't have to buy books anymore". I too was thrilled since it means we can now contemplate getting rid of all his books which are in piles everywhere. And also, it occurs to me, whenever he buys one of a series, he can never find the rest. So hopefully, this scheme will remedy that situation.

Whereas I get excited at the prospect of fairs being flooded with second-hand books. Everyone’s a winner!

    See?

Let me know when you're dumping books - I can take them h̶o̶m̶e̶ to the tip for you.

He loves second hand bookshops, just loves them. But it does mean, yes, that the piles never decrease. I don't know why I should care, really, since this house has become ever more bombsite-y with the introduction of Ruby Pup into the mix.

That would be fantastic. Seriously. Actually, now I come to think of it, I'll see if I can't bring a bootload to the Great Blend next week. We could stand in the carpark and look illicit.

  • Kumara Republic,

Good to hear at least one old-media company sees digital as an opportunity, and not a threat.

Back off, bitch. I've thrown more elbows at charity book fairs, church fetes and remainder sales than you've had hot dinners. :)

Quite - and since Orion acquired Gollancz, and the eye-wateringly impressive science fiction/fantasy backlist its collected over fifty years, I'm amazed it's taken this long to get something like SF Gateway on the road. As alluded to the press release, their SF and Fantasy Masterworks series have been successful. Faber & Faber have also been monetizing their backlistt with their Faber Finds imprint :)

Oh, well that's settled then. What a great way to get rid of a few extraneous books! I thank you, gentle men.

I think, for every bootload you may remove, another may appear. I am sure I glimpsed Ian in the second hand book department of the Sally Army shop yesterday. And yes I frequent those second hand shops as well. :)

Ian probably thought I was following him, (actually he would'nt have noticed me) . I parked behind him then followed him into the shop, all unintentional, mind. Also when I saw Ruby, thought, 'oh good, Stella has a fellow mutley to communicate with'.
Didn't do the chit chat cos I didn't have the half hour that requires. Please forward my apologies. :)
