  • Craig Ranapia,

Saw "something nasty in the woodshed" when she were a girl?

"I'm sure you did, but did it see you?" 'Cold Comfort Farm' -- love it. But, no, my Nana was just bullshit intolerant and very good at passive-aggressive crowd control. She seldom even raised her voice, because she didn't have to.

  • Islander,

Stella Gibbons is one of my literary heroes - that book was the first work of "litereeture' (as one of the high school teachers* pronounced it) that made me aware writing could be biting, & very funny, take the piss to the max and still be humane-

*to give that teacher their due - they pointed me to the rural noir school, so I could enjoy Gibbons even more.

  • Hilary Stace,

Haven't retraced whole thread but has anyone suggested the Aspie link with MJ? Unusual social skills and apparent perception of reality, lived in own world, preference for company of animals or children to adult peers, bit of body dysmorphia, unusual speaking voice, obsessive attention to and skill with music and movement. Such are my amateur observations.

Hey am I following you around? Can't recall any mention, but it is a refreshing out look. I never thought of Aspergers until....now.

  • Sofie Bribiesca,

He appeared to be high functioning in the early Jackson five clips.

Ok, gonna have to watch Campbell live tonight. MJ was looking good at his rehearsal 2 days before he passed away.

  • Islander,

Interesting point Hilary...and very high-functioning in the early clips, steven...dunno. What does an abusive childhood coupled with extreme early fame do any gifted kid? We dont really want to run another such experiment...
(Hilary -OTT- do I think there is an eczemaceous personality? Not from my experience: there does seem to be an hereditary link (other people in the whanau have eczema -from v. mild to bad) but v. few of us have breathing problems (mutant self has a lung-capacity of 20% plus the average, and has never had asthma. Cheers.)

I'd hazard a guess, it could create a person just like Michael Jackson.I'm not saying that is standard behaviour but I certainly think his is completely understandable in a really sad way out of wacko way :(

  • Islander,

    Elena 8 - you are a fuckwit.

By self-definition ( other asexual humans)AND scientific definition an asexual organism is both like
an amoeba for instance-this is where your definition comes in - REPRODUCING asexually
OR a being that "has no attraction to sexual activity" (to date, such creatures include rams, rats, baboons, and the odd human.)

I *am* an asexual person, I have a completely legitimate sexual orientation (i.e,.-none/natural neuter) & I find your comments extremely offensive and belittling. I am a physiologiccally normal female EXCEPT - I have never/will never experience sexual attraction to anyone or anything.

I am an asexual and you should possibly do a helluva lot more research before posting again.

Russell, is the poster Elena 8, actually a spammer?

  • giovanni tiso,

I would say so. Initially it puzzled me that he/she would have bothered to register to post in a forum without prospective clients, but I'm thinking that the benefit is in plonking the link in a high traffic site with dynamic content in order to get some Google love. I've seem some very good ones - this one and Paul's response spring to mind. (Scroll down to the third to last comment, I don't know how to find the permalink of an individual blogger comment.)

Ah. Thank you Sacha and Giovanni - that makes sense.

But they have drones out there microcustomnising?

    Sheesh.

  • giovanni tiso,

Best to just repost it since it is not in itself spammy (the link was in the commenter's name)

Not only do I agree with most of the comments left before me, but I also feel greatly attentive to what everyone here is expressing in their comments. Some of you I can say that I truly am able to relate to you, and some just make me wonder if I can ever relate to the way lots of you feel! In some ways it could be happy but if the feeling isn't really in the happiness stage of things then all I can say is I hope the becoming aware part of things does eventually work out for all of us in the end of things.. But alongside this topic, I love it! And it really is great to see a lot of us participating and really putting effort into collaborating one of the best blogs we've yet come to see!

I bet you say that to all the blogs.

  • Joe Wylie,

Parasites reproduce asexually, so do many single cell organisms – the only larger animal observed has been a few lizard species, and one shark, one time.

Khrist you find some ill-informed drivel on the web. The only reason this post is in any way remarkable is because the comments section of this particular blog has been pretty much free of such nonsense. Brine shrimps and several other species of small crustaceans reproduce without males, and lately there's been a variety of ant discovered that's mastered the trick.

ALL single-celled organisms reproduce without sex. The necessary tackle for sexual reproduction is, by definition, multicellular. And parasites? Individual tapeworms, for example, are equipped with both male & female reproductive organs. Apart from single-celled parasites, most of the nasties that infest humans and animals reproduce sexually, tho it wouldn't surprise me to learn that spammers increase their numbers by simple cell division.

  • Russell Brown,

    Have deleted the spammy post.

From my post after the verdict in 2004:

Jackson's private quarters - the supposed haven for children - was groaning with pornography when police raided in November 2003.

In his bedroom - where, according to evidence, he shared a bed with the same child every night for a year - the only videos were four Barely Legal DVDs and a Hustler documentary. Copies of Barely Legal and other magazines were found in the same nightstand as a picture of and emails from his accuser, and also at the foot of Jackson's bed and in a briefcase in the room.

There was (along with booze) porn in the bathroom too: including an "art" book called The Boy: A Photographic Essay (I Googled the book title and it does indeed appear to be considered a classic amongst fanciers of child erotica - and, no, I am not linking to those sites.). There was porn in his den and in another closet.

None of the material was illegal, but that's hardly the point. What kind of person takes other people's children into such an environment? And would you let Michael Jackson sleep with your son? As one of the jury said in an intriguing press conference after the verdict: "What mother in her right mind would allow that to happen?"

I understood why he was found not guilty, but I certainly wouldn't use the word "innocent" ...

Thank you. Y'know, my one encounter with sea monkeys was looking after them as a houseminder. Them and the kids' hermit crabs. Proud to say that I never lost a one. I know because their owners counted them on their return.

While those sea monkeys are so small that you can't distinguish their fabled crowns/coronets/whatever, not to mention the Neptune-style tridents with which they're classically depicted, I never saw any Jacko-style shenanigans taking place in their little plastic aquarium, so the asexual reproduction bit seems to be a goer.

    Eew.

I predict Paris and Prince Michael, Parts Un and Deux, are going to be running through a large chunk of Daddy's estate in therapy bills.

Meanwhile, remember Munter's latest addition to the Bro Code: Mates don't jizz in a mate's head gear. (You had to be there.)
