Good piece by Matthew Hooton on that very point.

  • Alfie,

That's an excellent piece from Hooton.

In related news, Winston states that he'll vote against TPPA.

Peters says his party will stop the National government from passing the TPPA agreement.

"Trust me I know what we're going to do here. We'll stop them passing this law.

"It's about foreign corporates suing you as a taxpayer. That's a challenge to this country's democracy which has been going for 167 years.

"It's about our sovereignty and right to make our own laws. It's no longer a trade deal. Worse still how can you pass a judgement on a contract you've never seen."

This doesn't mean the end of TPPA. But if Winnie wins in Northland, the pressure goes on Peter Dunne. Does he want to be remembered as the man who undermined New Zealand's sovereignty in exchange for a comfortable overseas posting?

And about time. Nothing has changed with this corporate money trading gangster. It seems that only now has the blinkers come off so really Hooton's slow off the mark and he's finally being joined by other journalists who, some of which, still find it hard to swallow, that their teflon man hasn't given them the promised pony. I said it back then, I'll say it again, John Key is dangerous, he is hurting us, and it is blatantly obvious ,he doesn't care if others hurt all of us. Even the most vulnerable and defenseless. The losses are piling up. All that happens with this Government is one loss after another.

Of course he can, he's like one of those Happy Meals that never decay. Eventually of course some child will prod it, causing it to crumble to nutrient-free dust, but anyone hoping for that to befall Winston better plan on a long wait.

Pity, I rather liked the idea of associating Happy Meals with adult toys.

Now I'm just off to send congrats to Winston. National thought spending large swathes of money would keep Northland, to many a person disgusted up here, I'm so glad my new abode is in a place where there has been a display from every booth that National are not good enough.

That he got punched out in less than one round by a professional athlete wasn't that surprising. But that he lost 17kg is. He should have gone in The Biggest Loser with those sort of numbers.

  • Steve Barnes,

    Several points on the election.
First, of course,we should have a good look at the election spending of National. I can't see how they could put that number of feet on the ground, let alone the limos. The number of hoardings and signs should have broken the budget on their own.
An annoying factor is that after Little said Willow Jean would get in "By hook or by crook" it was picked up by a media that seems to have no ability to understand common idioms
    By hook or by crook

This phrase formerly meant "by fair means or foul", although now
it often (especially in the U.K.) means simply "by whatever
necessary means". The first recorded use is by John Wycliffe in
_Controversial Tracts_ (circa 1380). Theories include: a law or
custom in mediaeval England that allowed peasants to take as
firewood from the King's forests any deadwood that they could reach
with a shepherd's crook and cut off with a reaper's billhook.

But with the understanding of a giggling forth form schoolboy, or Steven Joyce, it was forced down our throats as "Andrew Little is a crook" yeah, thanks for that.
For all those that say Winston can't actually do anything, well. National know that they will have to chuck large bundles of cash at the North to have any hope of a win in 2017 so at least they will have to build those bridges, even if they turn out to be metaphorical.

Northport and the proposed railhead are a good start and would relive the roading situation, allowing more to be spent on improving existing roads over the construction of "nice to have" motorways to the batch.
Well done Winston, they don't like it up them, as Lance-Corporal Jones would have said.
