  • Greg Wood,

Quite stunned by that slo-bieber tune; particularly awesome when watched in tandem with space footage, e.g.

A 20 year-old DJ slowed down Justin Bieber's 'U Smile' by 800%, until it lasted 35 minutes and sounded beautiful and amazing.

Kinda reminiscent of Douglas Gordon's 24 Hour Psycho, in which the Hitchcock film was radically slowed down. Don DeLillo is a fan. Unfortunately, the only YouTube clip I can find is the shower scene and I'm not embedding that.

That Bieber remix is probably what Sigur Ros have been striving to sound like for ten years. Or Stars of the Lid. Glacial must be the word for it. Amazing.

I'd be more impressed if someone could speed up a Sigur Ros and make a kick-arse pop song out of their easy-listening snore music.

  • Russell Brown,

Oh, nice. We got a great review from a forensic scientist who was at the recording of the special. She seems to have forgotten to mention my trousers though.

I know what you mean. I knew I was supposed to like Sigur Ros, but it never really worked for me.

    Your speeding-it-up-to-pop idea is splendid.

  • Greg Wood,

Hey Russell, btw - what DO you usually wear under that desk?! When I was on It's Academic, we lost pretty much exclusively due to overactively imagining Lockwood Smith wearing a tutu...

Oh that's a very handy and juicy piece of info, for which I'll start thanking you now.

Watching the Aussie leaders' debate this week endeared me not only to Phil Goff, but even to John Key. Blimey!

Reminds me of the production of the music video for Split Enz's Strait Old Line...

The Strait Old Line video is one of Nigel Griggs’s favourite Split Enz clips. To film the slow motion effect in time with the music, the band had to mime with their instruments at double speed. Hard to do without cracking up.

This might not be what you were thinking of, but it certainly is intense.

Media 7 used to be talking heads...now it's talking trousers. Is this bespoken tailoring?

  • Mikaere Curtis,

Tailoring is totally the way forward! I got some suits tailored in Bangkok on my way up to the UK when I was on my OE, and have been hooked ever since. The comfort of a garment that is design specifically for your body is something else.

I've had some really nice shirts tailored here in NZ, but most of my tailoring has been from India, Nepal or Thailand. Also, when tailoring, you can choose some really different fabrics (such as the bright purple wool in my greatcoat). At I one point I had five tie-dyed silk business shirts.

Hmm, it's got me musing on the similarities between a tailored garment and a personally unique moko or tatoo, although one is more of a commitment that the other...

I can't believe you teed me up so nicely to use that phrase.

Robbie Robertson deepened and slowed down crickets' song for the background in this track:

Possibly better without the human vocals.

I had a suit made up when I was in Vietnam three years ago, but it wasn't that great. The clothes Michael and Claire make are just really nice -- as are Michael and Claire. We have many friends in common, from back-in-the-day, so it's fun just chatting to them.

  • TracyMac,

The Soundcloud page for the Bieber song does actually have a link to speeded-up version of something - I thought it was Sigur Ros? Perhaps not (can't check from work), but still appropriate.

And count me in as another electronica lover who finds Sigur Ros boring in the extreme - I obviously don't have the right gene.

As for clothes, god, I hate them. I'm a butch woman, I work in a professional organisation, and I have, er, attributes that rival Christine Hendricks'. While I'm not as svelte as I might be, without the top ballast, I'm a size 14-16. But there is no way a shirt or a jacket less than an 18 will fit me, and unfortunately 16-18 is when the "big" sizes start to kick in, so often they are cut for shoulders and/or a belly I simply don't possess.

So I've been starting to ramp up to tailoring to solve the problem. I got measured up for some stuff by a travelling Thai tailor, and while the work was gorgeous, apparently even despite the humungous bazongas and the fact my back is so long, only men's shirts will stay tucked in, the "trendy" style for a jacket is right on the waist. I feel like Tweedledum wearing it. The trousers looked like something from MC Hammer circa 1990, despite my specifically saying the leg should be straight or slightly bootcut, and while my thighs are not the smallest, my butt is quite tidy and does not require acres of cloth flapping around. So that was about a grand of FAIL.

My favourite shirt is actually one from Strangely Normal, which is a gorgeous red and black paisley men's one in heavy cotton - if I didn't have the gaping front button problem (safety pins get me by, with a jacket), I would wear it ALL the time.

Otherwise, I find clothes shopping quite traumatic - I don't really fit men's clothes, and most women's clothes do not suit me in the slightest (assuming I can get them to fit as well). I've taken on the philosophy that if I see anything decent, I must buy it right away. With a budget or not because otherwise I buy about 3 garments a year, and that's hardly sustainable for a professional wardrobe.

  • Peter Darlington,

I fear that tailoring, like private whisky bottlings, has now become an occasional luxury without which I cannot do. It's a maturity thing.

I get suits tailored in here in Nelson and most of my business shirts tailored by Simon and the lovely folk at Rixon Groove in Wellington. I then dress like a tramp on weekends. Call it Karmic levelling.

Spooky, I just finished reading Point Omega, I just wanted Tony Hillerman's detectives Joe Leaphorn or Jim Chee to arrive and find the missing daughter...
    or for something to happen!

Mate, you're talking to someone who was characterised as "delightfully dishevelled" by Felicity Ferret in 1993. And no, it wasn't my grunge period.
