  • Sacha,

Excellent - that's exactly the type of analysis I mean. I was looking for answers on your site earlier. Sure you've tackled some of the numbers previously.

  • Sacha,

Like this example from the Minister's speech:

“...that particular road from Pūhoi to Warkworth currently carries more people per day than are carried on the whole of the Auckland commuter rail network”

  • Joshua Arbury,

Yeah that's another one I didn't even bother commenting on. There are approximately 35,000 rail trips on a weekday across the Auckland network. I think the busiest point along SH1 between Puhoi and Wellsford carries around 20,000 vehicles a day, and that's in Warkworth. Once you get outside a town, generally between Puhoi and Warkworth it's 15,000, north of Warkworth it's 10,000.

    More bullshit from Joyce.

  • Sacha,

Please do note it though or people think it's true

And how can we get these sort of lies exposed to a wider audience?

  • Kyle Matthews,

And how can we get these sort of lies exposed to a wider audience?

Darren Hughes is the Labour spokesperson for transport. Make sure he has the information for a start. Or Keith Locke who is the Green equivalent.

I'm being idealistic, but challenging lies *at the time* would be a good start. The opposition parties are supposed to have research units, aren't they?

Imagine if every time a Minister tried that shit they were called on it right away, so it was on the same record as the utterance. And a media release was dispatched immediately afterwards clearly summarising without spin the lies and the facts. Every time.

Also fed into subsequent parliamentary questions (and some training in constructing good ones wouldn't go amiss for some MPs) and into other communications plans.

Even if it took a while for media outlets with other priorities or loyalties to pass on the message they'd soon be aware of it. If enough other outlets went public, peer pressure would do the trick.

We deserve better than representatives who knowingly lie to us in pursuit of what they think is right.

    Snap, Kyle

  • Sacha,

On the solutions front, I'm delighted that Penny Hulse has been appointed Deputy Mayor.

Ms Hulse has served on the Waitakere City council in various roles for more than 15 years, most recently as deputy.

“She has been an outstanding conjugate across the [Waitakere] council with its many and varied political hue and experience in bringing that council together, and that has been a key reason why I have chosen her as my Deputy Mayor,” said Mr Brown at a press conference today.

Mr Brown says Ms Hulse will work closely with the Mayor’s Office on a range of policy initiatives like transport, social engagement and the environment.

I was on that road twice this last week, and 4 times in the last month. Not one traffic jam,let alone any problems amongst any existing road works and none at all into Warkworth. I can't help thinking every time that all the works around Matakana, and going to Omaha are happening for one person's ( and mates) holiday batch.Or am I just too cynical? ;-)
