  • Rich of Observationz, in reply to Mark Thomas,

Very, very hippy. Drum circles, if you like that sort of thing. I'd hope they still have psy-trance.

Hmmm yeah I suspected so. I was sort of hoping it might be further down the hippie scale, a la Splore.

Kim Newalls VJ performance is always a highlight of Splore, he also created the Love Creatures art installation taking advantage of augmented reality and a smart phone app.
Overall - an amazing festival which is a pleasure to produce for you all to experience. Lets all do it again soon.

If you like Splore (and have huge amounts of spare cash and don't mind it being fsking hot) you may enjoy Burning Man. Or Kiwiburn, next year.

Ritchie, did you go to Kiwiburn this year? I heard good things about the new space.

Yep. The new space is great - nice environment, no exogenous security hassles, co-operative local powers. It needs a bit of tweaking to separate camping from sound, and the river isn't deep enough to float the pirate ship, sadly. By all accounts the landowner enjoyed it and we have a five year resource consent to keep going.

Splore’s really not that much like Burning Man though – there’s no “radical self-reliance” and there’s an appropriate level of commerce. Performers are paid, etc. At least you Kiwiburn organisers had the good sense to find a riverside site!

  • Paul Campbell,

I wish I could go to Kiwiburn again .... but sadly anything on grass in the middle of hayfever season is just out ... but still we're going back to that other burn again this year .....

Splore just posted this pic of the campsite at 6pm on Sunday, clearly we cracked it when it comes to both educating punters and managing what inevitable waste there was.
