  • Peter Darlington,

    But I'm such a dude...

Regarding this whole dude thing, I hope you're channelling The Big Lebowski or Bill & Ted rather than Ashton Kucher and his missing car.

  • Jonathan Maze,

Something else not to miss. Bill Mahers final show for the year the New Rules patriot edition, one of the best ever:

Also a short one on Obama World for the 27% of Americans reportedly "afraid" of their new president:

You can download the whole show via itunes or watch a whole show throught the nifty new playlist function on youtube through "tullycast3 "s channel.

  • Kumara Republic,

The Monty Python YouTube response reminds me of the Bare Naked Ladies' response to Napster a few years back - instead of litigation, they uploaded fake 'trojans' of their own songs:

The imposter files begin with a sample of each expected song before breaking away to an offbeat marketing pitch for the band:

"Although you thought you were downloading our new single, what you actually were downloading is an advertisement for our new album," says Page in one of the Trojan-style downloads.

Page and Stewart also engage in light-hearted banter throughout the downloaded files, pretending to grapple with getting their songs on Napster. One clip ends with a tongue-in-cheek quip from Stewart.

"We fooled you, huh? We're sneaky like that. You can never trust a Canadian," he jokes. "Next thing you know we'll be supplying your natural resources."

  • Matthew Poole,

The Monty Python thing is exactly how copyright holders should be responding to YouTube rip-offs of their material. Offer much-better-quality copies (and, let's face it, the only thing better than broadcast-quality is high-def broadcast-quality, which the Monty Python guys ain't going to have), and use it to pitch sales of your recorded works.

Suing your fans doesn't work. All it does is do away with an advertising stream, and alienate them. Embrace them, offer something better, and try to get them to buy your shit. That's smart business.

Of course, being British, they've got far less interest in lawsuits and lawyer-grams than the equivalent American troupe (yes, I know, American "humour") would.

    As its Friday .....

The only thing not 1970's about this house is the price. Remarkable snapshot in time.

I recommend the full tour slide show to truly appreciate this flashback.

That is absolutely stunning. Change the horrible velvet couches for some good '60s ones more in keeping with the other furniture (formica, lip chairs etc...) and the place would be perfect.

    I'd kill for that office.

Also, is it wrong of me to want that house with a fiery passion? I mean, I really really want it. (Apart from the lounge suite. But I would keep everything else!)

I know, right? That built-in orange vinyl bar has me actually drooling like Homer Simpson.

It's perfect beyond belief. Maybe we could have a whip round? The PAS party pad...

  • Danielle,

Prediction: someone will buy it for the massive floor space, rip out all that is vintage, retro, wondrous, and otherwise holy about it, and create some minimalist shrine in tones of cream and taupe. And the angels shall weep.

That the place in Lower Hutt? It's been on the market a long time, I think that link got circulated around the Wellingtonista some months ago.

I think I had a teeny tiny heart attack. And that bathroom! You'd just have to sit down and... powder things.

    I'd kill for that office.

My father had that exact same desk, in about 1977.

While listening to what I believe is an... inbuilt radio and/or intercom above the toilet roll holder? Aqua, naturally.

  • Charles Mabbett,

Did you know that if you moved your mouse arrow over the flying pterodactyls on Luke Buda's website, they explode! But I won't tell you what happens if you blow up his head.

  • Charles Mabbett,

And IMHO his latest CD Vesuvius is also very good as are the Conrad Wedde solo CD Bronze and Age Pryor's Woolshed Sessions.

We sooo spoilt for choice down here in Wellington.
