  • giovanni tiso,

    online reputation specialists

Dear God. It's good to see somebody *is* doing well out of the whole social media thing.

  • Craig Ranapia,

Given that a good part of their beef has to do with transparency, this seems a rather thin declaration – especially when the website asks you "Enter your details as they currently appear on the electoral roll" before it even lets you see the questions.

Oh, Russell... transparency and consistency is for other people. Silly pudding.

Excuse me if I'm not going to risk putting my electoral roll details and e-mail address into a potential data mine for God only knows who and why they want it. Been there, done that, still getting spammed.

And serious question: Did Larry Baldock and the Sensible Sentencing Trust write those questions? They weren't leading -- you were put exactly where they want you to go. Which is OK, I guess, if you're already there but I'm not seeing any reason to take the exercise seriously.

Actually, they don't ask for your email address, and you'd be free to enter a bogus physical address. But yeah.

Judging by the ticket prices, the organisers can't be doing badly out of it either. Nice lineup.

If you priced an "online reputation management masterclass" too low, nobody would come. I am quite certain of it.

  • Mikaere Curtis,

I agree with Craig, the questiosn are loaded beyond salvage. Still, if they get the message that we aren't happy with Rodney's pseudoprocess...

Has the Government officially asked you what kind of Auckland you want?

It's like they forgot there was a Royal Commission. I voted Yes, although if they'd said this Government, my answer would have been different.

I only bucked the implied answer once, on the asset sales question, where I'm not sure about referenda as a tool

Depends on how they use the referenda. "Please endorse our decision to sell" is different from "Which asset out of this list should we sell ?". It is better to have an extra hurdle in the process than none at all.

  • Kyle Matthews,

The Auckland issues page on the National Party's website might be seen as a sort of cosmic joke – it being wholly devoid of content.

Ah see, it's a ".Auckland Issues" page. Apparently issues to do with a new Auckland top level web domain.

Yes. The prices have to be high - they're the equivalent of clothes on the emperor. Or something.

(Jesus Christ, the best part of $700 for the cheap seats? With apologies to anyone who works as a 'consultant' doing these bullshit seminar type-things for businesses, but... srsly, what a crock. Then again, I am the kind of person who hears the word 'conference' and mentally turns into the Unabomber, so am perhaps not the most impartial judge.)

  • Roger,

Well with loaded questions it does make it easy to dismiss the results! But I think that the question may be... is Auckland beyond rousing?

  • amy mac,

Our auckland etc. You don't need to answer any of the leading survey questions. Just the first one. And 'yes' comes first which means... the question is loaded... the other way. And the electoral roll thing? So we actually got us a real referendum, in all but name.

Yeh, someone might be data mining it. Like your supermarket + googlemaps. Face it, we're sold down the river already.

T'aint perfect but. But. You want Hide to clutch The Great Auckland Selloff out to his bosoms in retirement, like Winston's Goldcard. (Xcept yay Goldcard:"one good thing before she died")?

    "online reputation management masterclass"

Yeah, I mean what would be more worthwhile is "you destroyed what scant reputation you had, so lets help scrap your rotting corpse off the virtual pavement".

    @Rodger
I think the other weeks anti minning protest shows that it is still possible for a spot of rabble rousing in AK.

  • giovanni tiso,

And if Aucklanders fail to be roused by a petition masquerading as a referendum, that's probably a good sign.

I stand corrected on the point of fact, but since your "vote" isn't going to be counted unless you supply a valid physical address (presumably the one on the electoral roll) I still want to know exactly who the 'Our' in Our Auckland really is. Still reeks of standing on the edge of a data mineshaft.

At least it wasn't a goatse image like a certain local magazine foolishly ran...

no, I'm not explaining that further and please (for those that don't know) don't google for it. For the love of god, don't do it.

Paul, I don't think that warning is sufficiently strident, but I also don't know how to make it more so. Maybe some mistakes just have to be made.
And, really, you haven't lived on the 'net (I was going to say tubes, but thought that might be a bit too rough) if you haven't seen it at least once.

Apparently the Our Auckland site is being by the same crew who run The Standard... hence the massive bias in the questions.

But of course, in the interests of transparency and accountability, they haven't disclosed that.
