  • Grant McDougall,

"Meme Syndicate" - ho,ho, yet another nice music pun for a post header Russell. One day I will trawl the PA archives and make a list of all the music puns you've used. It'd make a hell of a playlist, I suspect.

  • Sacha,

One of the young Whangarei locals in Campbell Live's RWC caravan session last night even slipped in a cheeky #nekminnit

Indeed! And to think I thought "I wonder if anyone will get the joke?"

  • JacksonP,

    This Tui wasn't bad.

Lana Del Ray has been smoking my bacon for a little while now.

I've also been haunted by hearing Tiny Ruins at Roundhead last week. She (Hollie Fullbrook) had a motor cycle accident in Zanzibar and has had to cancel her upcoming concert tour in NZ and AUS. Was keen to go. Hopefully she will recover soon.

    More Lana.

    PS Yay for Maru!

  • George Darroch,

And a rather breathless, but still touching 20/20 segment which focuses on his person and explains a little of the motivation behind such a personality.

  • James W,

The "nek minnit" thing is older than that. My partner was using it about 6 years ago, and when I asked him where it came from, he said his ex used to say it all the time. So it's at least 10 years old. (When I started hearing people saying it during this recent spate, I was kinda freaked out, because I'd always thought it was a in-joke. It was like someone had been eavesdropping on our conversations.) Would love to know where it originally came from.

  • Rich Lock,

So I randomly clicked on some old waybacked hard news, and ended up in April 1996

    http://web.archive.org/web/19970104180105/http://speeches.com/hardn23.html

John Banks, the bumptious little oaf, had bragged that he would release under Parliamentary privilege the names of all doctors performing abortions in New Zealand, so in Banks’ own words: “You can walk down the street and say, she’s a murderer, he’s a baby killer …” These are, I need hardly add, medical professionals working within and by the law. If Banks carries out his shabby little plan they will be subject, at the least, to personal harassment. And at worst? Who knows?….John Banks is a dangerous, self-possessed little creep who consistently demonstrates himself unfit to be a cabinet minister.

    And:

Speaking of loose, Phil Goff is still on it. Last week it was drugs in our prisons, this week it’s taxpayer money going to those bad people in gangs and hospital waiting lists. Why is he so energetically courting the floating redneck vote? Is he minded to have a run at the Labour Party leadership? Well, that would be stupid, wouldn’t it?

    Awesome.

    Daze of wine and roses…

Saw them at The Kardomah Cafe, King's Cross in 1987. Only 24(!) years ago. Geez, now I'm depressed...

  • hamishm,

OMG I remember hearing Banks saying that on the radio, the big old valve radio where the family gathered for "Family Songbook" of an evening while father churned the butter.

    Fascinating!

A bit like munter/munted, then. I thought those words were just used by people I knew, then -- nek minnit -- it was all mainstream and I was explaining "munter" to a quizzical Kim Hill.
