  • Ben.Shirmer,

    No. Why do you ask?

    Just wanted to make sure.

__I have a life besides my keyboard and like to comment on some things despite of that fact. If that's wrong, your moderator will be more than welcome to tell me that.__

That is not relevant to the point. The criticism is not that you are an “outsider”, but that you are new, and yet chimed in on an issue that you yourself said you didn’t have knowledge on and wasn’t what you were purportedly interested in discussing.

That was a response to another topic.

  • giovanni tiso,

That's what I really don't understand. He had the power to exclude him instead.

Not really. Russell can cancel one of lil p's accounts, but then lil p can create another one. Why did you think we referred to him with so many different names!? Ultimately he needs to understand that nobody is remotely impressed with what he has to say and how he says it, and in the meantime his comments will get deleted when the moderators get around to it and hopefully he won't get too much rope from the other good-faith participants.

Are we on the same page now? Can we please for the love of all that his holy move on?

  • Emma Hart,

Okay, cleaned up the thread, a task made much easier by all the 'not rising to troll bait'. Thank you all.

And Ben, enormous effort has been put into dealing with li'l p/conseismal here, which Russell has already stated on this thread, and it would be nice if you took him at his word, instead of simply assuming everyone was over-reacting. Some of his posts which I've deleted from threads of mine were by a very long chalk the most vile repulsive things I've ever seen written here. Nothing else even comes close. No, we don't have the power to exclude him, or we would have done it. Can you please accept this?

  • Islander,

    Thank you Emma!

Now, I'll go off & write a -I hope entertaining- 800 word article for my tribe's magazine "Te Karaka" - delayed firstly by a back molar falling to bits and then an unmollified backbiter flailing in fits-

  • Danielle,

I'd just like to cast my mind back to page 13, before pages 14 and 15 became such a delightful example of thread clusterfuck in action, and say 'aw, thanks Russell!' I have a horrible cold and feel particularly bung, and that made my day. :)

I am not a usenet veteran, but listservs in the 90s were similar, I think? Long, pointless arguments; three women for every 100 dudes; endless bitching about on-topic and off-topic and bandwidth... yeah. Fun times.

I should also note, for Rich and Simon's respective benefits (Mr Grigg, dude, I am stunned, you could *not* have been intimidated by my posts back in the day, as I was and remain a total dork) that when speaking in person I am approximately as daunting and/or elegant as a half-set blancmange.

heh..maybe intimidated is the wrong word, but daunted by your prowess with the written word is perhaps more accurate.

And after all, LISTSERV forums (if they can be called forums) worked out rather well for you, no?

  • Emma Hart,

I can't speak for CactusLab, but the reason we've never introduced IP blocking at Bardic Web is that it's quite a blunt instrument. Especially there, we have a lot of people using communal computers - libraries, universities, etc. Also to compensate for the small shifts in IP number if you're on dial-up you end up having to block whole blocks of IP numbers. And a really determined troll will just go down the road to the internet cafe anyway. You end up causing more problems than you solve.

Still, one(1) persistent troll after three years, that's not too bad.

That's alright. I just found myself in this discussion and one can assume that I thought about it for a while. Regarding the situation Russell's and your reactions were good.

  • Sacha,

the reason we've never introduced IP blocking

Thanks for the elaboration, Emma. Sounds like a non-tech solution then.

Though not scrolling past the obvious and then trying to disentagle all the other responses. If only we were all perfectly non-reactive..

Quite. And if Russell has been corresponding personally with the wretch, he probably needs some TLC by now.

    Thanks Ben.

Nothing is the hardest thing to say. I had to delete a teeth-kicking arse-handing the other day because Russell had already deleted the post I was replying to while I was typing.

Okay, I'm going to bed. Yous all be good, now.

  • Craig Ranapia,

So, back on topic-ish Goff finally passes Helen Clark as preferred PM.

The bad news, he's only got to give another dozen or so grossly race-baiting speeches and the next election is in the bag! Yay...

  • Just thinking,

Deck the halls with bowels of zombies,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Tis the season to shoot zombies,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Don we now our gay apparel,
Fa la la, la la la, la la la.
Trolls the ancient plague of websites,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

See the blazing flame wars before us,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Strike the harp and join the chorus.
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

    Follow me in merry measure,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
While I tell the trolls to fuck off,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Fast away the old year passes,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Hail the new, ye lads and lasses,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

    Sing we joyous, all together,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.
Heedless of the wind and weather,
Fa la la la la, la la la la.

Far too many la las for me but I appreciate the effort. This is the time of the year when my iPod works overtime, shutting out all the Snoopy's Christmas and Felice bloody Nobby da da in all kinds of public places.

  • pollywog,

i have a rule. "what goes online stays online" and shouldn't affect real life dealings. people tend to get in trouble when they rep themselves. it just seems a waste of face time talking 'bout puter time unless you have a vested interest

i see Key is going to be dining with royalty instead of giving the NZ speech. why bother going then ? self fulfilling photo op prophecy ?

There is always the chance of learning something, and from that educating others. For some,it is their only line of communication, but, have ya rules, doesn't bother me.
