  • Che Tibby,

actually, that's a very interesting blurt about the non-comments stuff.

i haven't seen the cyfswatch site, but that line is not all that common. in fact, it's usually only seen in the right-wing blogsphere of the sir humpties or whale oil variety.

i think our cyfswatchers may well actually be the loonies of which codders speaks.

  • reece palmer,

Like RB said, there are some horrific stories told there and some horrifically told stories too.

  • Russell Brown,

One last thing whens the next great blend and can I pre register now?

We've been a bit delayed through one thing and another, but I'll hopefully announce the dates (Wellington Feb 8, Thursday week and Auckland Feb 11 at the new Auckland museum events centre - and yes that really is next week) on Wednesday morning. So stay tuned - and Reece, seeing as you asked, I'll make sure you're in.

    Cheers,
    RB

  • Span .,

Well none of this bodes well for the idea of the Herald website including blogs and forums does it?

On the CYFSWatch issue, my main concern has been the rights that the CYF workers have - both to a certain amount of privacy and to complaints being addressed in a just manner.

  • Petra Jane,

Google is not obliged to [remove blogs] under US law, and would be going down a pretty scary road if it banned every blog that was the subject of complaint.

Why bother, when you can slap a spurious DMCA Takedown Notice on Google as the hosting ISP and demand near-instant compliance? Time to register 'CYFS' as a trademark?

    Funny you should mention trademarks:

  • Danyl Mclauchlan,

But most bloggers - and we're talking 95 per cent - are fly by night, gutless wonders who prefer to spit venom under inarticulate pseudonyms …

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this editorial anonymous . . ?

  • Warwick Eade,

The press (and MSM in general) are having a huge identity crisis.

After years of regarding themselves as ‘the special ones’ they suddenly find that a swarm of amateurs can do large parts of their job at least as good, probably better.

When they try and write about what makes the professionals different from the amateur horde they trip up very quickly. Jeff Jarvis has blogged this at length and with great insight.

Whaddarya? – journos are struggling with that these days and hence the venom. I think there will be plenty more.

  • Ian Hickling,

it's seemed to me in recent years that the quality of the spelling and grammar in the NZH has deteriorated markedly. I always equate (probably wrongly) this with the paper becoming less believable. It was always Aunty, but it was our Aunty. Now it just seems like some kid down the road. But I'm fussy - I've even written to BBC World to complain about their spelling! ggrrrrr grrr nash nash

  • reece palmer,

If you have tickets to see england play in cricket world cup Ian, don't bother. A 20/20 between antigua and barbados would last longer and be far more entertaining. They were just plain woeful last night and in fact all summer. NZ are starting to come right, although Oram may have injured himself again last night. As well as Vettori's neck, but I digress...

I have no idea what this is about. My guess is that it's someone who once sent me an email which, like most such emails, wasn't published in the blog. With their "team" being anonymous and all, it's hard to tell ...
