  • MikeE,

Yes, said photoshopped image annoyed the hell out of me, when it popped up on bloglines in the morning while reading the news at work.

I'm another one on the right who was annoyed by it, and I normally have a lot of time for the blog it was on.

Could have at least been tagged NSFW as a courtesy.

  • Terence Wood,

Am I the only one posting here who had to go and look up what 'X' actually is?

Happy to help - the letter before 'Y'.

    Surely, even in Hataitai...

  • andrew llewellyn,

    I am, aren't I....

Well, I had to think really hard about what it might be. In the end I figured it probably wasn't referring to Baywatch's appearance on the air.

  • Lyndon Hood,

I did wonder at the time exactly what the man meant by "a flick on the ear". Between the logitics of giving an uncooperative child a flick on the ear, and the way "a clip around the ear" is hitting someone in the head, I thought there might be more to that one.

They want votes? They should talk about interest rates!

  • Idiot Savant,

Hey, where's my housing affordability initiative? Screw it, where's my cheese affordability initiative?

I think they're saving the big guns - like tax breaks on Havarti - for an election campaign gazumping.

  • BenWilson,

Lyndon, indeed. The 'clips over the ear' that I got over the years ranged from a light tap to a punch that sent me sprawling. You can whack people pretty hard with an open hand, especially when you are twice their size.

    Andrew said:

Which is completely standard fare in Australia....Perhaps both main parties want to wash their hands of interest rates and maintain the stance that the Reserve Bank acts independent of government, etc?

But if they do start talking...

The right presumably would want to argue that government spending is inflationary (although the other day on this forum I was informed that spending on infrastructure might not be...).

The left presumably would want to argue that tax cuts for the rich (and subsequent consumer spending) are inflationary.

I have a feeling we the public would end up none the wiser.

    "Viva Le Referendum"

This is why kids need to stay in school.

Yes, but Italian is a fiendishly difficult language.

Any high school teachers around here care to comment on the plans for (presumably) expecting/encouraging teenagers to stay in school longer than they already do?

I imagine it's a sweet, merciful relief (for teacher and good student alike) when some of them depart.

  • Terence Wood,

The reason why the Nats don't talk so much about interest rates: tax cuts will most likely raise them.

Simon G - three languages in one sentence. Have you considered the possibility that kids these days are too literate...

  • Craig Ranapia,

Craig, for what it's worth, though I'm clear you've got different politics to me, I've never associated you with that particularly odious crowd and I can completely understand your desire to restate your independence.

Well, the text offended me as much as the picture (more so, in a way). Any way, in the finest tradition of teh blogz I got ever so slightly irritated (some mild-ish language including the P-word, so probably marginal for work viewing).

Yikes! Four languages in just 3 words. I blame Bebo.

  • Russell Brown,

I didn't hear much of Key on morning report but I feel like he used the phrase "boundaries and [something]" (as in, thats what they need [right as far as it goes]/what they will get) three times in one sentence.

He also promised "drug and alcohol training" which would sound kind of fun if you were a teenager. It was his speech, so they had to stick him out there when they'd normally use a senior MP, but, man, he's not very good at it.

Readers may be amused by the Kiwiblog thread on the Jimmy Mason case, in which many participants show a rather thrilling estrangement from reality.

    All fair I'd've thought.

I've not seen the offending imagery or text but have heard enough to not need to. I simply don't understand how this small bunch of idiots aren't being actively discouraged by more experienced players (present company excluded). They do their cause far more damage than good.

  • Finn Higgins,

Readers may be amused by the Kiwiblog thread on the Jimmy Mason case, in which many participants show a rather thrilling estrangement from reality.

Going over there's really a bit like watching Friends. There's the usual set of characters all acting in a completely predictable way and it's completely asinine and boring. Where's the amusement?

Every single bloody Kiwiblog thread is the same. DPF posts something with a rather obvious chunk of right-wing-rage talking points tacked in there somewhere (or, alternatively, something that appears to resemble a public-school attempt at wit - but we'll ignore those threads) and then...

    * Joey shows up and writes some stuff about socialist oppression and leftie traitors.
    * Ross calls Joey some names and tells Rachel she's a hypocrite
    * Rachel gets annoyed at Ross and points out that she's a bastion of integrity and good humour, but Ross is really getting on her nerves.
    * Somebody else makes the mistake of talking to Joey, who immediately flies off into a paranoid rant about how there's an organised campaign of lefties out to supress him. He talks in the third person throughout.

    And so forth.

    Where's the amusement?

  • InternationalObserver,

For the record: I totally got what Ross meant when he said "We were on a break". Rachel had broken up with him remember, so he was entitled to shag someone else.

Go to a well known site & start working down the links, ignore the ones it obviously isn't, I found it on the fourth go.
