Now that guy is old rock star crazy, although he does make a good point about hoodies.
He also makes good points about Space Exploration and Boredom. I heartily recommend Ben's link (bottom of page 1).
As for Jordan being the inaugural inductee into the NZ Music Hall Of Fame...
definitely a worthy candidate. and deserving of the accolade.

(or was this a __songwriting accolade?)__Corben Simpson and Geoff Murphy had come to APRA to request a change to the writing credit on Blerta's 'Dance All Around the World', which still earns rights money. In the middle of the song, there is a poem by Margaret Mahy.
It's a little more than that. There's hardly a line in the song that isn't lifted directly from MM's picturebook "The Procession." But hey, that was almost the 60s, and noone really cared.

I dunno. Jordan Luck is a very safe and MOR choice for Hall of Fame. I would have gone with Martin Phillips or Chris Knox but I guess the very nature of Halls of Fame is their choices have to be as broadly appealing as possible. And let's not forget dead rock stars who should be there like the guy in Dragon and Steve Gilpin of Misex. Legends.

The thing about Jordan is he means so much to so much of the country, far more than either of those two richly deserving individuals. Sadly, I bet most NZers couldn't name a Knox song beyond Not Given Lightly, and even less a Chills song.
Whereas Jordan's songs, like em or hate em, are national anthems.And, if the rules are the same as the US, you need to wait 25 years from your first album release. I think Knox is ok if you count Toy Love, but Martin has another five years to wait

I think I could find about 300 people I'd put on a list before I got to Steve...he didn't actually do that much in NZ, played a few TV shows, formed a prog band who jumped on the punk bandwagon and then hopped it to Australia where they had a big hit and toured a lot. AFAIR no-one took them that seriously in NZ at the time.
But Dragon...yeah, if only for Rock'n'Roll Ponsonby...now that's an Auckland song.

Don't you have to love Ewan McGregor - it's the Star Wars prequels he's publicly embarrassed by, not the parade of queers, junkies, assorted scumbags and dancing fools that round out the CV.

Well, I didn't want to harsh the buzz by saying the money probably would have been very useful when Mahy was holding down a full-time job, raising a daughter by herself and trying to squeeze in a bit of time to write. Tessa Duder's 2005 biography is (thankfully) light on the salacious details, but you don't have to read too far between the lines to pick up that being a literary icon isn't a career choice over-burdened with financial security. And even now, it's a fraking disgrace that Mahy was for so many years a writer more recognized in kid lit circles abroad, then in her own country.

In the last 20 years social change has accelerated so much that could we assume that even in 10 years time the promo efforts of today will look equally as quaint?
Well, take a look at the latest effort from the tourism office:
It's all beaches, beaches, beaches, bush, mountains and lakes.
What amazes me the most is how it's been carefully filmed to make New Zealand look almost completely uninhabited - Piha beach is shot from angles so no buildings or infrastructure are shown.
In the 2m 22s clip, there's 2 seconds of some isolated lodge and 3 seconds of Auckland city at night. Buildings are completely absent from the rest of it.
This is not the New Zealand I know.

My thoughts on Rock 'n Roll halls of fame are closer to those of the Sex Pistols.
That said, It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Jordan's a genuine creative genius (which is to say that his mind works on a level different from the rest of us - Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No!, indeed), and a great guy, to boot. A lot of artists make good or even really good music, but it's a rare few that have the ability to create stuff that just organically connects with so many people; that sound like an old friend, the first time you hear it. That's the true measure of pop music, and in this country no-one's done it quite like he has.

I interviewed him years ago at the old Kiwi Tarvern by Auckland uni. As we wrapped up the interview, some of the students there converged to say hello. Jordan welcomed them to the table, asked everyone their name, once, and then proceeded to address all 12-15 of them by name in conversation for the next hour. As someone who perpetually struggles with names and faces, I was amazed.

I heard Gordan McLachlan on the radio once say the correct name for this problem which I think is 'prosopagnosia' ( which I've just got from Wikipedia as I've forgotten it of course).
But the point was the person who had told him the correct name was Margaret Mahy.

He'd be the chap who programmed the Lions test then. The other gorgeous bit of programming that evening was the playing of Dobbo's 'Welcome Home' as the stadium was emptying out. That was magic.

Never a huge fan of 'Victoria' but still have two other early singles - 'All I Can Do', which I love and which is different to the album version; and 'Airway Spies'...got memories of singing 'Railway Pies' to the tune of it when Dance Exponents played Sweetwaters '84.

SOP Robyn, just like how all those travel mags and TV shows always seem to show a near empty resort with just a few good-looking young folk lounging luxuriously on deck chairs.
And yet when you get to the resort there are 200+ people in the pool area alone, and all the deck chairs were taken by 9am. I love me some rockstar biographies (__The Dirt__ is like the greatest book ever written, apart from Geri Halliwell's If Only), so I was really disappointed in See Me Go - every single piece seemed to be like "......... and then Jordan Luck got drunk" - no matter who was writing it or the decade it was set in.
Also, the Mint Chicks didn't win? Fuck! I must owe a lot of people a lot of money on what I thought was a sure thing bet.

In the dark ages and NZ radio did not play NZ music. I remember the barman at the public bar of the “Westward Ho” organizing a petition and presenting it to ZM asking them to add “Victoria” to their play list.
I tip my hat to everyone, inckluding the Exponents, who carved out a “career” in NZ Music during these times. They should have inducted the whole band.
