  • ChrisW,

    Catch-up reading -
What on earth was going on up-thread a few days ago, all that intensive statistical analysis of recent opinion poll data - but then expressing the results as if they related to the outcome of the election in September?

It's as if a bunch of geeks outside a rugby ground estimated the half-time score using crowd noise and smoke signals, then gave their interpretation of these imperfect data sources as the final outcome of the game.

Strikes me this is the essence - or at least half of it - of the problem of media overstating vague ephemeral poll results such that they become prejudicial distortions of the election process and outcome. More care needed with the language as well as the statistics!

  • izogi,

In some reluctant defence of Patrick Gower (whose style I still find annoying), I’ve appreciated his and his team’s analysis of the the recent Simon Bridges and Victoria Forest Park thing, which I think is spot on, if repetitive, and it’s a shame that both TVNZ and Fairfax have so far completely ignored the entire thing.

I don’t see Patrick Gower as a biased journo so much as someone who often lets narrative based self-congratulatory entertainment value win out over provision of objective and relevant infomation.

Plus I only saw one article in Herald about the PM's view on it. He thinks its fine of course.TV3 seem to be covering it. Weird.

  • Ian Dalziel,

    back to the future...

...the recent Simon Bridges and Victoria Forest Park thing,

Not to mention that apparently Bridges has returned from an alternate reality where Russel Norman has been a Minister in Government!

Just how much time does he spend there?

    Plus the Veterans’ Support Bill
Although this Bill is better than the !954(?) Act, can we at least recognize the efforts these people have made without insisting they be disabled to receive full recognition. Their time left here is short and to suggest its not worthy of note now is shameful. Simon Bridges should feel ashamed to ignore the RSA submission.
Instead let's fork out whatever necessary to make sure the Royals have a happy time. Emmerson has it in a nutshell.
