  • Danielle,

I wish 'It's Friday' wasn't filmed in such a characterless void of an apartment. It looks like the worst party ever.

Besides, a really New Zealand party is all about huddling in drunken groups outside a weatherboard house in the wind and rain, isn't it? :)

  • Kyle Matthews,

Whether or not it'll be any good, those Hunt for Gollum people have produced something very slick for amateurs and volunteer professionals, working with virtually no money.

Most fan-made movies are awful, and LOTR has produced a couple of shockers. This one looks like it might be worth the download. The trailers are very similar to the actual movie's style of shooting, editing, lighting etc.

  • Andrew G,

And speaking of the Phoenix Foundation, all you Hawkes Bay readers might like to get along to see them tomorrow night at the Cabana.
And while you're at it pop Grand Prix's gig into your diary for next Friday (9th). Last time these boys played in Napier the audience consisted, oddly enough, of the mayor of Christchurch and entourage, me and a handful of friends. They were great too, certainly better than Bob Parker's dancing but at least he made the effort.

Agreed. The Two Towers and The Return of the King were both terrible.

"I also ran into costume designer Ngila Dickson, who is -- be ready to swoon, geeks -- working on the Green Lantern movie."

Never mind Green Lantern - when is the Green Arrow getting a movie?

That I'd be keen on, so long as they stear away from the origin story.

It certainly wasn't quiet last night. I think you'd be fine.

Is now a good time to point out that you spelled the set "Cucpake MAdness" or is this a devious reference that I'm not cool enough to get?

I'll be interested to know what he makes of the Patricia Piccinini works. Especially this one.

No, that is not a real child. But crouching down next to it was like entering another reality.

I think we need to steer this conversation back to just how bad Ottawa have been relative to Anaheim over the past few years. I'm not sure it's been mentioned enough.

Patricia Piccinini works give me the heeby greebies. Which I guess is a compliment. Simultaneously incredibly real AND screwed up.

Am I the only one who thinks that the 'Friday' video looks like an ALAC ad trying to do a sick kind of homage to the 'Smack My Bitch Up' video?

Also: don't text and drive! Sheesh, kids these days.

Martin Campbell is directing and Grant Major is there as DOP.

Do you mean Grant Major is there as Production Designer? As far as I know, he's not done DOP work before...

Her stuff is awesome! There was an excellent exhibition in Wellington a couple of years ago. Just marvellous!

No. No you are not the only one.

Incidentally, why are 'the hotties' in NZ R&B or hip-hop videos always so instantly recognisable as *our* hotties? It can't just be that they're probably distantly related to me (like everyone in the country), can it? Is it our film stock? Their clothes? The light? I swear, I could see five seconds of a NZ video with Random Sexy People in it, without knowing the artist, and know they were local peeps. It's weird.

  • Andrew C,

Well off topic, but recently the embedded youtube's in Russell's posts have not been showing up in my browser (IE 7.0.5730.13). It shows a big square with a picture placeholder icon.

However it works fine in Firefox, so its probably not the page, its probably me... ALTHOUGH on some other web pages I *do* see embedded youtube.

Can one of the comp savy out there help a computer nub as to the likely cause? I did an internet search but didnt find anything, but perhaps I need a few better key terms.

Also: don't text and drive! Sheesh, kids these days.

I was almost taken out yesterday by some woman on a motorbike with three kids who was txting whilst pulling out into traffic without a glance in either direction. Then again, it's not that unusual.....

It'll be our Flash player, which now supports a bunch of other video streaming services in addition to YouTube (just paste in the URLs, folks) but clearly breaks with your particular configuration.

I'll mention it to the guys.

I think it's self-consciousness - it is not our nature to be video hotties lounging around doing nothing. We're supposed to be making scones, rounding up sheep and raising babies.
