Hard News: Friday Music: Why Soulfest was really cancelled – a moral lesson

  • Russell Brown,

The just in: Underworld are playing at a new festival on April 8. It's called Oro and it's to be held in Woodhill Forest.

    Herald story here.

    Tickets (not yet) available here.

The promoter is the experienced Dave Roper, so it's not going to be one of those festivals that promises big then folds. Great news.

  • Peter Darlington,

...but what I’m most excited about is Tall Black Guy and John Morales at the DJ Stage.

Gutted to be missing Tall Black Guy at Moon in Newtown, Wellington because I literally get into Newtown from Nelson about an hour too late. Doh!

If you like your electro dark and bassy, can highly recommend Underworld's Twenty Three Blue, an out-take from their last album, Barbara Barbara...We Face a Shining Future.

  • Ian Dalziel,

    Transuranic half life...

Radio Active, the station that championed the Wellington sound for almost 40 years, is facing closure.
Unless someone stepped in to take the reins of the money-losing station by March 15, the dial would go quiet at 88.6FM, company director Nicholas Bagnall said.

  • Rich of Observationz,

Yeah, I'm not sure how I'll do getting up in the morning with no Redbird.

Could they downsize to something sustainable? What does full-size FM transmission cost? (I believe they are on a "student" license but have a high-power transmitter that reaches all of the city and the Hutt).
