  • Mike O'Connell,

I'll do a full rundown of Record Store Day happenings in next week's post, but the lineups are taking shape.

From what I gather, at least four locations are participating: Real Groovy, Southbound, Marbecks and the Cross Street market. Looking forward to it!

Pretty sure Flying Out will be on the case too. Even if you can't afford to spend a lot, it's just a fun day doing the shops.

  • Alan Perrott,

hey Russell, found some disco bangers in the RG bargain bins - struck a seam of 80s/ 90s 12" that had me looking over my shoulder to check if anyone else was going to jump in to a box ahead of me.

Anyways, I've always thought Boney M'd have some goodies and I got two on the same album. This is my fave but:

  • Moz,

What is it with things like soundcloud and bandcamp that they go to such great lengths to make sure their sites don't work at all if you have any privacy protection enabled? It kinda spoils the experience not being able to listen to even a snippet without signing up.

  • Silke Hartung,

Too funny that there’s controversy about the Dunedin Sound article. Isn’t it awesome that there’s new music that people love, coming from Dunedin?

You miss the point of the controversy. The controversy is that said article portrays a handful of the more commercial, post-Six60 new bands as being the sum total of new bands, yet completely ignores the umpteen other new bands that are also around, which aren't playing the mainstream music the bands in the article do.

Disclosure: I lived next-door to some of the members of one band for a year, so am familiar with them and their music. I'll be polite - it's not my cup of tea and I far prefer some of the more challenging, adventurous bands around, than a bunch of dude-bros.

  • Kumara Republic,

As every domestic political debate seems to be escalating towards hyperbole and madness, a couple of new media-political tunes have come across my desk. I feel it is important to the nation that I share these.

And not just domestic political debates either. We're really, really hoping that the semi-unilateral decision to jump into Syria with F-35s and Typhoons doesn't turn into another Iraq or Libya.

Maybe it's time to dust these off:

Dunedin has managed to spawn both varieties since forever. The dude-bro-ish Terls, who once appeared on the same Auckland bill as Toy Love, are barely remembered today.

  • Kebabette,

Kia ora - I am trying to track down what's happening in Christchurch for Record Store Day (as is my wont this time of year). Not having any joy so far, so if you - or the PA crew - know anything happening Ōtautahi side, give e a yell. Thanks.

Thanks for an exceedingly comprehensive Record Store Day primer and guide - it makes Chchch look almost cosmopolitan and alive (well at least one community of interest anyway)...
