  • George Darroch,

Gosh, what a saturation of electronically-saturated goodness.

In other news, Disclosure have decided that their new album is also a film. I'd watch it.

In other other news, looks like Disclosure is producing a track or two on the forthcoming Lorde album. I like that.

Jamie xx proves himself rather talented recreating Loud Places live along with a choir - http://www.nbc.com/late-night-with-seth-meyers/video/jamie-xx-performance-loud-places/2874307

  • George Darroch,

A saturation of saturation? I'm glad that repetition is a key element of electronic music.

I love what Bic & Kody mean. They seem to float warmly above the surface of the earth, occasionally making contact. All the leaves are green, and the sky is blue...

  • Alan Perrott,

good to see Bic has been able to hand Kody the production duties - I heard his rough mix of her last album and it kicked the arse of the eventual release.
I'd say that new track is more reflective of her/ their love of Ye Ye though, she's even got something of a cod French annunciation thing going on.

also really digging the new UMO album. those Nielson fullas kinda amaze me really.

  • Barnaby Nicholls,

Jamie xx is fantastic – it’s great to hear him pump it up a bit when the last xx album was so restrained. He’s got something special, for sure.

I’m really enjoying the new Beck song – he’s gone pop and it’s gone well. It’s frivolous, but a little bit wonderful. It’s never going to have as deep an impact as Sea Change, which got me through some difficult times, but for throwaway fun you could do a lot worse.

  • Russell Brown,

This is cool: Flying Out has a basement underneath the shop in Pitt Street and they have a string of great shows (most of them koha entry) through July.

    Note that RSVP is essential.

  • Yamis,

Since there’s not much action at the moment in this thread, and I am contemplating sleep before waking to run the subs at my daughters football tomorrow morning, I am going to post a Grime diss track.

In summary this guy called Chipmunk who was in the grime scene left to American pop start fame. He did a track with Chris Brown (Champion), kinda crapped out, came back home (to England), did a diss track.

And then got slapped silly by Saskilla, Bugzy Malone etc…
It starts with Chipmunks track and then goes from there. Saskilla and Bugzy Malone = dope.

...and now for some things completely different:

Wellington Gypsy Swing maestros, Black Spider Stomp, have released a damn fine album of Gypsy waltzes - available through Bandcamp

...or if your tastes run to the other end of the musical spectrum, Meth Drinker's kiwi take on Doom Sludge has been well received on their recent whirlwind European tour.
Sample their albums, also available on Bandcamp

  • Ian Dalziel,

    Serfing the net…
Coupla links found on BoingBoing while sickabed today…
I blame those three sneezing kids in the row in front of us between Hong Kong and Auckland – coupled with the contrast between the 33 degrees in HK (and the 28 degrees in Paris 13 hours earlier) and the 6 degrees in Chchch when we arrived home… (One of our bags even took a side trip to Queenstown and caught up with us the next day!)
Walking across Paris to the Gare du Nord – probably didn’t help either – too much luggage to attempt a packed Metro crosstown – the station was blockaded by striking taxi drivers protesting against Uber cabs soldiers and gendarmes were every where at both the station and Charles DeGaulle Airport – those French love a good manifestation – saw several in various places…
France is heading into a major recession I reckon
