    Not there again today.Good.

As I was flicking through the dial
I heard a man who was truly vile
    He wasn’t there again today
Oh, how I wish he’d go away

When I listened to my set at three
The man was waiting there for me
But when I flicked around the dial
I couldn’t hear him there at all!
Go away, go away, don’t you come back any more!
Go away, go away, and please don’t slam the door

Last night I heard upon the tube
A little man who was really rude
    He wasn’t there again today
Oh, how I wish he’d go away

I see Paul Henry surfaced again on the TV3 panel after the leaders' debate, and will apparently grace them with his presence on election night... Is this just Mediaworks getting their money's worth out of him before he joins the 'grain drain' to Australia?

    PS: lovely rework of Antigonish
an excellent example of the ends justifying the Mearns

Let's run a PA vote on the channels' proposed panels. Henry is the most revolting man, so that rules out TV3 for me. Shame because I like John Campbell.

Exactly, Hebe. Why the hell would anyone want Henry on a serious election analysis...oh, right.
Is Maori TV going to have a special show?

What I do not understand is why we should have to endure the political barrow-pushers as "analysts". A second-string failed candidate like Paul Henry (who was only ever a candidate because of name recognition) beggars belief as a commentator. And he's such an obnoxious man. I'll turn the sound off, watch the numbers and sit next to an old Press Gallery hack.

And Bryan Gould's major qualification for providing post-debate commentary on National Radio seems to be that he directed UK Labour's failed '87 election campaign. I'm hardly surprised he thinks Goff is just awesome-sauce, but being one hell of a Labour Party insider doesn't make everything he says intrinsically worthless.

Paul Henry stood for Parliament twelve years ago. I think we can find more substantive and recent reasons why he doesn't deserve our attention, yes?

Them too. My overall point is the out-of-stepness and tiredness of most of the commentariat. Most of them only talk to each other, in small circles in Auckland and Wellington, and haven't got a clue about the mores of the rest of the country.

Well that's the problem, really. She's not exercising her rights. She's just doing as she's told.

Exclusive Brethrens don't vote either for the same reasons.

The @CampbellLive tweet last night making it clear the debate was a news and current affairs gig and that Campbell Live had no input into the selection of panelists was interesting.

Campbell also questioned if Henry was biased in his appraisal, which he denied. but yeah t'was rather obvious. Who was the woman on the Panel?

Conservative middle aged white male Jim Mora has two conservative middle aged white men currently on his panel, one of whom (of course) starts the show by complaining about democracy, talking about a leaders debate neither of them watched before they get middle aged white man – wait for it – David Farrar on as the “expert” to discuss the worm’s apparent defiance to obey the collective wisdom of right wing middle aged white men.

Therese Arseneau. She's a political scientist from Canterbury. I've seen her in previous elections and am quite impressed with her. Certainly much more so than the cod authority that Claire Robinson brings. She was being, I thought, very measured last night. I think that she may have wanted to say more but was sticking to her area of qualification. Well, that's what I think.

this is pretty interesting, I was coming round to your way of thinking a bit more but was not aware until today that the Crown is opposing the orders. That downgrades the chance of success a bit I would think. Fascinating day in Court.

  • Alfie,

Bradley Ambrose’s defamation case against Key takes another step forward. Herald journo and Key biographer John Roughan has been ordered to hand over recordings of his chats with the PM.

The Privacy Commission based its ruling on an earlier decision by Judge Helen Winkelmann during Kim Dotcom’s civil case against the NZ police and spy agencies. She ruled that the privacy exemption for news media related specifically to “articles and programmes” and did not extend to books.

While I wish Ambrose well in his endeavours, I can’t help but feel that the principle of journalistic protection is being perverted in New Zealand.
