  • Kyle Matthews,

    Martin Phillipps done good!
He looks healthy and I was transported back to 1990 for a moment there.

I was watching a video of the 1990 Music Awards (whatever they were called then) the other day. He was wearing a truly ghastly pink shirt which my girlfriend claims to have chosen for him. Every time he got up to collect an award I was half blinded...

  • Sacha,

Rob, I enjoyed reading your story too. Thank you for some of your life's work enriching mine over the years, including a poster of South adorning my wall for ages. Were you at the Powerstation for that Nun anniversary show? Bats did a spectacular set.

  • robbery,

I don't know who that guy is, honest, he looks far too polite to be me.

speaking of bats, minisnap (minibats) are a self distributed poor artist not eligible for rianz awards and too cheap to fork for the fee,
possibly russells fav the LEDs are in the same boat, and one of my fav's the enright house too, just if you want real world examples of regular kiwi music not in the pot for award recognition. and if I was that guy I would also be too skint to put my own (kimo) work in either, not that we're competing with advert sound tracks anyway.

And you only spieled about NZ on Air once.

funnily enough a lot have musicians have said that they have been feeling bugged about the state of funding for a long time and after reading that paragraph it suddenly made sense why. it must be true cos its in print, right?

ther's a minor flaw in that. what downloading kids want and what downloading kids can actually have may well be 2 different things.
what I wanted as a kid was to drink raspberry soft drink and play video games all day. apparently that's not a sustainable career.
and that's what its all about ain't it. sustainability. downloading is all well and good but is it a sustainable model, regardless of what some kid wants to do?

most kids won't care about ethics and morals unless they've been bought up to care about such things.

    hah busted...

Mostly kiwis in the london singing alt country songs of urban longing.

sounds dead exciting. No really... *yawn*

...about media7 tho, it seemed the only ones making money was the vodafone ringtone guy cos thats what the kids were prepared to pay for

weird eh??? kids get music for free but would rather pay for a ringtone...

...who would have thunk that. i just wonder what else these crazy kids would pay for and whether it might be worth asking them ???

i mean, we know what the industry, the lawyers and the managers want...

not giving a shit enough to change the tone my phone rings from a standard vintage bell thing can't you just record a bit of any song into a phone and make that you're ring tone. why would you want to pay for one, or is that not how it works?

    :)
yeah well the sound of three guys bragging over a drum beat does the same for me, but each to their own eh.
I read the reviews on their site. uncut, mojo, etc. They're doing quite well, slightly better than getting 4 stars in the southland times (no offense meant to that esteemed paper)

yeah you can also make your own clothes and think it's haute couture too...

...they pay cos it's legitimate instant gratification impulse buying
