  • Megan Wegan,

It really was a fabulous night. I now have a complete girl crush on Emily Perkins. (I went and bought the comic this morning, having been too excited about talking to everyone to remember to do it on the night.)

As I told you (somewhat....happily) on the night, you all did an amazing job.

Pls pls pls can we have a Wellington one soon? And seeing as I have to be in Christchurch about a dozen times in the foreseeable future, a Christchurch one too.

[ETA: Another highlight of the night: Robyn Gallagher's tweets about the Original Gangsta Bytchyz Annual General Meeting appearing on the big screen.]

  • Robyn Gallagher,

Another highlight of the night: Robyn Gallagher's tweets about the Original Gangsta Bytchyz Annual General Meeting appearing on the big screen.

You know, it started as a bit of a joke, knowing that #ogb tagged tweets were being projected at the event. But after a while, others starting joining in on the fun, and it became a way that people who couldn't attend the OGB could still have some lolz on a Friday night.

Just so you know, the Original Gangsta Bytchyz will be making an appearance at the OGB in Wellington. Consider this a warning, yo.

  • Andre,

Skyview? I thought that it added ambience and was a brilliant solution for carrying a Twitter feed. I'd like to thank Simon Butcher from Innovative Markets for agreeing to spend about 3 or 4 hours of his time between midday and 1am installing the AV balloon and waiving his normal $1000+gst fee (after I hassled him for ages to do so).
    Cheers.

Hey, I'm a sucker for an artist who doesn't look all malnourished and scruffy. Deeply superficial I am.

And I hate to be (slightly) Grinch-y about a thoroughly excellent night, but the acoustics in the Wintergarden are *cough* somewhat challenging and, from the middle of the seating, I could hardly hear the fabulous Silke Hartung over the dull roar from the bar.

Silke tweeted she had a fabulous time, regardless, but respect peeps! These Great Blends only work because of the extraordinary generosity and hard work of a lot of fabulously talented people. Don't take it for granted.

  • Robyn Gallagher,

Hey, on Friday night Lance Wiggs tweeted this intriguing photo of the new design for PA:

    What's the story?

Forthcoming site revamp, unites "classic" and System, all in HTML 5, tons of under-the-hood improvements, front-page feature photos, etc.

    ETA? Not quite sure ...

I've been meaning to, honest, but Matt had a couple of things he wanted to nail before I showed it to y'all. I'll send through some samples today.

No worries. Excited to see it. Vamping is fun, revamping even more so :-)

  • Geoff Lealand,

Aric Sigman at it again report... (sorry guys...)

How could you...I just about lost my lunch! The Daily Mail is probably a suitable home for a fruit-loop such as Aric (which is semiotically close to ache or arse?

And I see the evils of Teletubbitry are fodder for the fulminations of the foolish once again... Never mind, I've directed Russell to the guilty URL, so it may be regurgitated in a future column. Sorry, Geoff.

    Craig :)

  • Morgan Nichol,

I thought the Blend really turned a corner, after not entirely enjoying the previous couple. (Most recent one mainly because of that bloody harddrive music left repeating ad nauseum at far too loud a volume - it was fun once, but got grating quickly.)

Great venue, even the loud chatterers added energy to the room, made it a bit difficult to hear sometimes, but they seemed to be enjoying themselves, so who can blame them.

One thing about the venue - is it stitched up by DB? Heineken is really awful, so if DB haven't contracted a requirement to only serve rubbish, how about instead offering something a bit nicer from one of the locally owned breweries? I'm sure (as I tweeted) that Luke from Epic will do something for you, he has been kind enough to provide (partial) sponsorship for other small events around the city, so I know he'd be down.

It was my girlfriend's first Blend, and she really enjoyed it as well.

    Nicely done.

And where were you, Mr Nicol? I never even saw you.

  • Morgan Nichol,

And where were you, Mr Nicol? I never even saw you.

Right at the back on the left side facing the stage. In chatterer central. Standing sometimes, sitting others.

Then later on, standing looking aghast as people scrambled for art, more or less sight unseen. That's not how I like to see art treated, but people will do as they wish. Frenzy (not quite, really, but let me be hyperbolic) driven by the forced scarcity, I think, people not wanting to feel like they'd missed out. Luckily I only liked one of the panels, and only saw it outside the venue, and long after it had been snapped up, so I could just stand quietly judging my friends while the lolly scramble was underway.

(Said friends actually got what would make a fucking ace triptych, but unfortunately the panels are now split between three houses, never again to be reunited, and not nearly as nice as single pieces, IMO.)

Nah. It was robustly-produced art sold in a robust fashion -- although I think I missed the most frenzied period.

I liked the idea of the artists selling work they'd made that day, direct to the customer (we did pay them fees as well). I think they were very happy with it -- not least because the alternative, no one buying any, would have been much worse.

Later having seen they had 3, I assumed it was a triptych ( why would they have 3 otherwise) but must admit it followed with a tinge of sadness contemplating each whole piece's fate, remembering how powerful they looked on stage.
Also agree with the beer thing. I would have enjoyed an Epic, and consequently would not have got so trashed on red wine sans food combo.Plus I suspect I was one guilty of a little chatter but so many people so little time. I couldn't hear up the back anyway as the bar was behind us and did a marvelous job of competing with Russell and Simon.. Thought it was quite muffled and too far back to hear Mr Grigg well but the photos were great.

Don't get me wrong, I thought it was a brilliant idea, and if there'd been a piece I liked I would have grabbed one up myself. I just didn't like seeing my friends scrimmaging around snatching things off the floor is all.

I'd be an ideal invitee, as I wouldn't grab any, so you'd get more for yourself.
