  • Craig Ranapia,

More thunderous poll news to ease your fears

But Karl Rove is going to unleash Satan, and someone is going to shoot Obama and there's a hell of a lot racist crackers out there who lie to pollsters and Shirley Manson really is a Terminator-CEO who is going to destroy us all and...

Oh, fuck it. McCain is toast. Burnt toast.

  • Sam F,

someone is going to shoot Obama

This above all things is what worries me, unlikely as it is. Not just his death but the damage to American civil society that would follow.

Gallup finishing its polling predicting an 11-point Obama win in the popular vote

In the Gallup graph the last day of polling coincides with the biggest Obama advantage of the whole campaign. Talk about peaking at the right time!

  • Simon Grigg,

Now hold on Simon ... when did you come over from the dark side?

you mean OSX... a burglar dropped the Compaq as he was being chased by my dog and myself and cracked the motherboard so my wonderful wife bought me a Macbook Pro 17" in Hong Kong a month back..about US$2.2k there which is way less than here or anywhere else I think.

I was easily persuaded....although I still have Vista running for those programs that won't run under OSX, or have shitty upgrade options.

Like MYOB...who seem to think that a windows upgrade path is fine at $200 but a Mac one is $500...

And for blogging. Can anyone point me in the direction of a half decent Mac WYSIWYG blogging app that come close to Windows Livewriter.

    Yep...but I'm not gonna jinx this..McCain will win..McCain will win..McCain will win.

So, Giovanni since Obama may squeak through and you don't want a $5 Rolex, what can I tempt you with..a Bintang T-Shirt, how about a personalised copy of Indonesia's new We-can-out-Taliban-the-Taliban Pornography law which okays vigilantism?

  • giovanni tiso,

Ah, Simon, I'm entirely at the mercy of your generosity and the Rolex of course would be fine, I can sport it on the beach and be the envy of passing Germans.

I got your thing the other day, but I really, really hope I'm going to get to keep it.

Sorry, my English is, how do you say... inelegant.
What I meant to say is that I purchased something for you on Saturday, and that I'm really hoping I won't have to send it.

Sadly Indonesian 'broadband', being what it is, may preclude an online alternative

But how I'd love to change. MYOB is such a dated dog...hell it doesn't even support mouse wheels.

  • Sam F,

    Oh lord.

The likely victory of socialist Barack Obama in Tuesday's presidential election is an indictment of Airhead America, says SOLO Principal Lindsay Perigo.

"Thanks to the capture of the state education system long ago by Gramscian leftists, generations of Americans have grown up illiterate, not only unable properly to read, write, do maths or think logically, but ignorant of their country's history and indifferent to its uniqueness ...

Thus, when a far-left presidential candidate like Obama, steeped in Gramscian political correctness and the jargon of gender/class/race warfare, is discovered to have bemoaned the 'constraints' placed upon government by the Founding Fathers and the absence of 'positive rights' (i.e. 'entitlements,' the enslavement of some to others and of *all* to the government) in the Constitution, there is no controversy.

...The transformation of a once-muscular, proud, capitalist, individualistic United States of America, land of the free and home of the brave, into the Union of Soviet Socialist States of America is near-complete.

The only thing to be said for a vote for McCain/Palin is that it's a vote *against* Obama bin Biden, and may buy the country some time: time to reverse its slide into a European-style 'social democracy' - i.e., full-blown collectivist tyranny based on the airheaded consent of the tyrannized. For that to happen, not just Senator McCain and Governor Palin but millions more Americans need to snap out of their addled airhead postmodern stupor and acquaint themselves with Ayn Rand."

I lol'd. Then I cried a little in my heart for the people who really do lap this stuff up.

    Obama bin Biden

    Cocaine's a hell of a drug. </Rick James>

I am a ball of stress with all this election anticipatoriness (not a word, but roll with me here). I think I'm going to have some kind of freakout soon.

WHAT?! The American education system has been taken over by Gramscians and NOBODY told me? Kids, pack your bags. And Amy, Jolisa, James... I'll be there by noon tomorrow. Bake a cake, do something.

If Enid Blyton wasn't so damned girly Perigo would be advocating the moral and economic rigour of the Magic Faraway Tree.

Well, there really will be cake, if that makes any difference.

But, seriously? I thought it was going to be special after 2000, when they were surely and obviously going to reform their political system right in front of me.

You could split my intention half and half, I guess. Half touching wood and chanting break a leg, the other half reflecting on my experiences here in the last few election cycles.

Do I have it in me to resist offering cake and grief counseling?...nope. Very sad.

  • JohnAmiria,

Given the efforts by the Republican Guard to secure the vote in 2000 by any means necessary the cynic in me wonders what they'll pull out of their bag of tricks this time. Obama is so far ahead in the polls they'll need some pretty strong voodoo to explain a McCain win. It will most likely be a slice of Rush Limburger: "We just told the pollsters we were gonna vote Obama" served with a side of The Bradley Effect.

Not that anyone will buy it. I predict a riot.

But then the cynical cynic in me wonders if the Republican Guard actually wanted the Presidency this time round. How else to explain the Palin/McCain ticket? With the US economy in the toilet it suits them to be out of office. In 4 years time it will all have been the fault of those tax and spend Democrats.
