  • Hebe, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

How come we’re all so brilliant and all so broke? I have a couple of Toy Love singles I could chuck on your pile for Russell’s pie. Are they worth anything? I believe Mr Jackson's basement is bulging too. (Oh dear, he seems to have left the room with his vinyl face on).

Russell, it will be small but heartfelt.

  • Bart Janssen,

popular food blog posts in the hope of attracting a sponsor

OK here's the plan, everyone who shops at Farros finds the manager and tells them they should sponsor a food blog on PAS :).

Or Sabato, Or Mexican Specialities or ...

Heck if they each sponsored one every few months ...

Meanwhile I'm happy to pay for the fun I have here.

  • Anthony Behrens Esq,

NSFWCorp (The Future of Journalism with Jokes) have an interesting and sophisticated payment model...cool, funky and apparently working - they've now doing hard copy as well as online.

If you google them...be careful tho...nsfw.com is not the same as nsfwcorp.com

Taking the Like button concept a step further - what about a Priceless button so we can donate based on posts/comments that have really done it for us?

Done. I'm not a regular reader myself, but I recognise the importance of having something like PublicAddress around.

It's worrying how many of my PayPal transactions have "Dub" somewhere in the particulars. Ahem.

I am really hard up at the moment but I *can* offer a mint 1987 copy of tbp (the Spiral H&S) version, signed if you so want it- offers should start at $100 (they go in USA for 4 times that-)

this place is a space I truly enjoy: there are creatures that annoy, but they are not large contributors to the general ethos.

    Kia ora tatou!

  • Clarke,

Done ... and I'd be happy to pay a monthly subscription just for the pleasure of reading and participating in PA.

Here's the thing: I don't actually want anything more for my money. I would like the rest of the world to be able to see and experience an unfiltered PA without having to put up a dollar, even though I'm a subscriber and they're not. I am happy to see your (curated and tasteful) ads and wouldn't want them switched off just because I subscribe. Having PA continue to work the way it does is worth the investment.

So if you go down the subscription track, please put up two buttons: one for the subscribers who think they need a little extra something to justify that regular automatic payment, and another one marked "patronage" that has no sweeteners at all, for those of us who think that the automatic payment is merely paying our dues to have a New Zealand Internet (and at one remove, a New Zealand society) that we can be proud of. I, for one, would vastly prefer to be a regular patron than a regular subscriber.

Good on you. And that's absolutely the idea. Subscriber radio.

This may be too much work, but on other sites I've seen a widget stating the monthly operating costs (whatever they entail) and an update of how much has been donated that month. Maybe a target would be helpful for some, maybe not.

It’s not just about operating costs, though, it’s also about keeping Russell operating.

  • Geoff Lealand,

A regular auto payment option would be good, like we do for Scoop.

Incidentally, it good to see that the Isaac Royal Theatre fundraiser in Christchurch is getting very close to its target,

  • Roger Lacey,

Thank you Russell for creating and curating this space where all voices can be heard and discussions had without descending into the sort of playground name calling that seems to be the norm on most other forums.
I have not met anyone who regularly posts here personally but I feel I know many of them and think of them as part of my extended family.
May your subscriber-funded-but-accessible-by-all scheme allow you the freedom to pursue your dreams.

  • Jackie Clark,

Funnily enough, my Vector cheque came in the post in the last couple of days...... What I would like to say is this: PAS is the place that started off, for me, an age of making new friends. I never expected to make new friends after 40. I had always thought I wouldn't. And here we are - because of PAS, and meeting some of you, I joined Twitter. And so it goes. Thank you, Russell. You're a good friend, a good man. I am delighted to be a part of this community, and even more delighted to be able to pay back some of your kindnesses to me over the years, and to keep on doing so.
