Field Theory: True Colours

  • Stuart Coats,

You're so right about the shoes Haydn. You'd think Adidas wouldn't let the netballers step out in anything other than their own product.
And I like the white too. If you can't have black go for its diametric opposite!

  • Joanna,

Actual serious sport-ish related question: why do they (or at least you - I don't read anything else about sports) call it a "strip"?

  • Richard Irvine,

OK, so *maybe* the move back to white isn't *completely* market driven - but the move to grey in the first place was. Simply, that jersey looked quite good with jeans, and they'd have shifted truckloads if we'd won in 2007.

I'm still not convinced we need an alternate strip at all. Playing in black, we only ever need it when playing Scotland in Scotland (and they farked that up last time) and France when Nike are playing silly buggers.

  • Naly D,

AFAIK, adidas policy is to review the All Blacks and Super 14 strip every 2 years. I'm fine with that. I'll buy the new strip at some stage - not so I can keep up-to-date, though that has something to do with it, but because when I buy that jersey, I like to think it means that I own the tarsus' of Dan Carter, or Joe Rokocoko, etc.

And if I didn't buy that jersey, well they wouldn't be able to see, because I'd take the tarsus with me.

  • Hadyn Green,

Good question Jo, I had to look it up.

    According to Wictionary:
Strip is derived from Stripe (or Strippe) so it could possibly come from the team's stripes of colour.

I don't think Adidas make specialist netball shoes. Or if they do it's only a couple of styles, whereas Asics make about 7 different variations. (Not that I'm trying to equal Hadyn's shill status.)

Simply, that jersey looked quite good with jeans,

    Only in Hamilton Richard.

Ha! Tucked in? With boat shoes or white cross trainers?

  • LegBreak,

    Probably black cross trainers?

    But definitely tucked in.
