Field Theory: Time to relax

  • Nathaniel Wilson,

Since when did baseball count as a major world sport, but not cricket? Especially when it has the potential to be a cracking test.

It is nice to know there will be fewer cars, horns ablazing, keeping us up all night though now the football's finished. But what do I do with my evenings now? A quiet one or two is fine, but after a month of saturation, the cold turkey's been dreadful.

  • Hadyn Green,

I went home sick yesterday and ended up watching the Home Run Derby. Sigh Then again it was nice to see David "Big Papi" Ortiz firing balls all over the park with a big grin on his face and laughing with his friends and kids.

Also the TV3 sports news last night somehow failed to mention the only sport that was actually on.

  • recordari,

The silence was nice, but I can't help feeling we have started to take our rowing teams somewhat for granted. Oh yeah, three more golds, six medals overall. Meh! Drysdale only got a Bronze. Never mind the fact he just had a break for a back injury.

    And don't mention the Hockey.

God I'm missing the Football. Can you tell? Bring on the second test.

  • tim kong,

On the "breathy" commentators tip - was it just me, or was the commentator for the WC final suffering from a really bad cold or nasal infection of some sort.

I thought something was wrong with my home theatre system for a bit - but when we finally figured out what it was - wow, it just got really annoying.

Isn't that the reason the rugby commentators have the microphones with the "lid" on them - so they don't breathe all over the viewing public.

  • Mike Hollywood,

Noticed that too Tim. After each comment he made there would be a long sort of sniffing noise ... or like a heavy sigh ... anyone know what that was - surely it was just too consistent to be a human-generated noise. Annoying it was.
