  • Kyle Matthews,

For reference, "Kowalski! Give me options!" has become a catchphrase in our house.

That whole short movie is a whole nother level to watch as an adult as commentary on movies. I saw it at the theatre before the feature and just about stood up and demanded that they play it again.

  • Megan Wegan,

As can a huge section of the women I know between about 25 and 35. Generational thing?

Oh, absolutely. Return of the Jedi might have been the first film I ever saw at the movies, but Dirty Dancing is the enduring one. And it often gets put on when i am drunk.

  • Rich Lock,

    "Kowalski! Give me options!"

Hmm. Until I googled that just now, I assumed it came from 'Aliens'.

I'm sure there's a moral in there somewhere, but I can't quite tease it out.

    That... is awesome.

As is the fact that if you google for that exact phrase, this thread is the third result (at time of writing).

For the curious/childless, it's a quote from Madagascar (or, specifically, the Penguins of Magascar christmas special - it's on the DVD, it counts).

  • recordari,

    Juno.

    Juno: I'm pregnant.
    Leah: What? Honest to blog?
    Juno: Yeah. Yeah, it's Bleekers.
Leah: It's probably just a food baby. Did you have a big lunch?

I love that line 'Honest to blog?' It deserves more fans. Or is that more stage?

    and later;
Juno MacGuff: You should've gone to China, you know, 'cause I hear they give away babies like free iPods. You know, they pretty much just put them in those t-shirt guns and shoot them out at sporting events.

  • hayden ward,

Why has no one quoted the most quoteble movie of all time... "dad I've dug another hole!"

  • Megan Wegan,

@recordari: I've been known to loudly say "When you move out I'm getting two Weimaraners".

And @ hayden: ditto with "tell him he's dreamin"

Ugh. Apparently I'm one of _those_ people.

  • Hadyn Green,

oh fuck yeah,we may have a new winner. It's just the vibe your honour. Hours of serenity.

Apparently, Michael Caton doesn't remember any of the lines that fans quote to him, except "Tell him, he's dreamin'"

  • Kyle Matthews,

I would have gone with "this is going straight to the pool room". Applicable when people give you so many things.

ooo! ooo! Within 10 years AND quotable:

    ##

    - Oh, son, for that you traded your everlasting soul?
    - Well, I wasn't usin' it.

    ##

    - Mrs Hogwallop up and R-U-N-N-O-F-T.

My favourite from LOTR will always be "Your love of the Halfling's leaf has clearly slowed your mind".

10 Theories on the decline of film quotability

    1. It isn't, you're just old
    2. Old stuff always seems more quotable because it's been quoted longer
    3. There's a lot more film so it's hard to remember
    4. Film is becoming increasingly visual
    5. The quotes have been used up
    6. "Having a memory is so 20th Century"
    7. Theatrical overacting is in remission
    8. Screenwriting has become less inspired due to corporate pressures
    9. People quote computer games now instead
    10. Quoting has become uncool and/or it was actually always uncool
