    Mt Taranaki, from the archives.

Awesome shot, one of those eye-boggling ones, had me instinctively thinking Taranaki and, with the way the mountain appears to just shoot up out of the road, the karst mountains outside Guilin, Guangxi, but thinking at the same time that it's not often you'd see snow that far south and surely it's Taranaki.

This morning's work. Getting that one last stubborn nut undone so I could get the seat off took a fair bit of effort and much squirting magic lubricating stuff. Been wanting to get rid of that trike for ages - what's the point of a trike which can't turn right?!

On yer bike (also known as: I have been perfecting one of the key skills of Chinese parenthood).

And pinched from The Beijing News - how not to use a crane. That happened just about 1km up the road from me.

And one of my own again - a statue, last winter.

Not sure if I'm doing this right - using the attachment thing? Anyway, if this works, a fern at Oakley creek. It's where I go to sort my head out. It's just a phone pic - I don't have a camera. I thought it was pretty though.

Another phone pic - Mud meets Sky

Burke St wharf in Thames. Now just used by terns as a convenient place to sit and chatter.

Indeed, love the play of light and shadow on the fern.

That's great pic for a phone. In fact the low-fi nature of the phone image gives it a certain something. It looks almost like an image from the 19th century.

In the tunnels under North Head, Devonport. Didn't have a tripod on that day so had to hand hold this at a high ISO.

    The Cornish Pumphouse

Not Luna Park meets Edvard Munch then?

In the tunnels under North Head...

    a high ISOlation unit?

Playing with black and white after a gig last week.

Very high ISO, so a bit noisy. I need a faster lens.

A bit of tweaking in post.

I was watching a BBC dramatisation of Kidnapped that was filmed in NZ, and they used North Head for several bits, including being a prison cell in one sequence - so yes it was an ISOlation unit!

I've photographed these mountains thousands of times, but today was the first time I'd captured them RAW.

And then I thought it was kind of fun with the contrast turned up to 11....

...and then with Picasa's pencil sketch toy on top of that.

    Like the uber-contrasty mountains.

This is the side of a building snapped from the car. It was all monochromatic to begin with.
