  • Just thinking,

I left my office and joined the "Rebuild" a year ago yesterday. Some things never change, like fluro is the cloak of invisibility in Merivale/Fendalton,. Conversely somewhat hero status in the South & East.
The greatest change to my life (beyond my income - which has increased) has been the increasing reach of Johnny Law, specifically the Liquor Licencing Laws.
On the odd occasion a night shift finishes early (midnight), I can no-longer live my life as I used to by popping into the Riccarton Night & Day for a 6 pack or pop into The Crack. By the time my POETS day starts it has gone 1am, the new witching hour when all wickedness starts and I'm not allowed to play unless I go to the great dens of inadequacy - the Casino or the Brothel (Calendar Girls), both too far away if you live in the new centre of the city - Riccarton and not my cuppa tea.

  • Ian Dalziel,

I heard Chchch mayoral hopeful Paul Lonsdale on the radio yesterday - he sounds just like a mix of the departing Barry Corbett and the bane of Wellington, John 'Mystery' Morrison - we don't want any more of them, no way !

Has anyone seen a poster of Paul Lonsdale on anything but an empty section?
    Symbolism much?

Cleaners in this city as all round New Zealand have a struggle to make ends meet with extremely low wages. Tau Henare advised one cleaner who has the task of cleaning facilities at a Government Department to go and find employment elsewhere. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11131033

Today at 1pm the empty Copthorne Hotel collapsed in a pancake fashion. People working on the deconstruction were securely fastened to cranes therefor nobody suffered injuries

Good to see working at heights safety systems in place there. Pop out to a few residential demos and you will see guys (temps I'm sure) held aloft in the bucket of a digger leaning over the edge to rip a house down by hand & all on a back section, on a hill, on the cnr of Bellview Tce & Mt Pleasant Rd.

Snowdrop and Ginger exploring the hood. Our newest neighbour, just a week old. Born on a freezing night in Marlborough she enjoys the comfort of city backyard living and the attention of a wonderful family, including three cats two guinea pigs.

  • Gudrun Gisela,

This was the morning after and both are just getting to know one another.Little Ginger was a stray kitten on the farm and was nurtured by the children. She has settled in very well. Such a lovely sound, a little lamb calling for her bottle amongst the diggers and building noises.

    Blows against the empire
Phillipstown School beats Hekia Parata's meddling - Ruled unlawful, Wahoo!
...and CCDU finally does what it should've in the first place and lets individual landowners develop their own properties in Chchch city mall area
Now if we can just ensure Aaron Keown and Ngaire Button amongst others don't get back into office (greedy Keown is running for 3 different positions and probably wants to keep his directorship as well).

    For Christ(church)'s sake please vote!

  • Hebe, in reply to Ian Dalziel,

Low turn-out (38 per cent last night) is awful. Less than 2010. Like voters are thinking that Lianne Dalziel will be mayor, so what is the point of voting.

As a result there could be some gnarly councillor results: lots of people running in my ward for instance : three very good options but possible that the vote will be so low and so split that an oddity comes down the middle. I hope it’s not the one styling himself “a normal Kiwi bloke".

  • Hebe,

Rebuild Christchurch says the CCC results are:

    Lianne Dalziel is mayor elect

    Councillors elect are
    Pauline Cotter
    Ali Jones
    Jamie Gough
    Raf Manji
    Glenn Livingstone
    David East
    Vicki Buck
    Jimmy Chen
    Yani Johanson
    Paul Lonesdale
    Phil Clearwater
    Tim Scandrett
    Paul Smith

That would remove sitting councillors Ngaire Button (deputy mayor), Aaron Keowen, Claudia Reid, Helen Broughton plus the retirements. Remains to be seen how close these are and if any challenges.

  • Hebe,

Banks Peninsula looks like its very close: specials and recount maybe. Also Hagley-Ferrymead: Lonsdale's margin is thin.

Lots of former 2021ers, but a centrist lot overall.

  • Lilith __,

    Provisional CCC results here .

Notable: Ngaire Button and Aaron Keown out of Council.

Hagley-Ferrymead Community board (my local): at least 4/5 greeny-labour-lefties.

Lianne Dalziel our new mayor, with Vicki Buck and Yani Johanson set to be a strong force in Council.

Looks like big changes ahead for Chch. In a good way!

For Banks Peninsula Council seat? Currently running second but it’s close. Actually (looking again) it's a 3-way race there, could all change with special and late votes.

  • Rob Stowell, in reply to Lilith __,

    For Banks Peninsula Council seat?

Andrew Turner at present. Hoping he can stay ahead .... and wishing the family hadn't split the votes! (Knowing two other candidates made it tricky.)
Nuk is a nice enough bloke but a little too blue for my taste :)

No one-trick-ponies on the CCC. The moral & heritage campaigners got nowhere.

Wayne Hawker stalked a SOOB (Small Owner Operated Brothel) and got a few more votes than Lisle Hood who owned Heritage buildings used as Brothels. Both are at the bottom of the pile and out of elected office. Yip that's right - no-one gave a fuck.

Mark Belton came to prominence around the Cathedral debate and got nowhere.

Vicki Buck is in and I remember the city burst into life when she was Mayor, here's hoping the new intake of 2013 are up to the challenge before them.
